Nurses LPN/LVN

Hi All, I am 42 and a new grad. I would love to make some new friends and also gain some insight from those who have gone before me or even those who are still in the process. I am preparing to take my boards. I'm just waiting for my school to send out my paperwork so I can mail in my registration. Hope to catch up with ya

also i used MOsbys comprehensive pn review book, i found it VERY helpful, i only have 85 questions, i finished it in 1 hour, and i passed :)

send it right away, once my papers were processed, i could schedule my date the following week.

I sent it yesterday. Will they let me choose a date for 3 weeks or so? I don't have to take it right away right. I also applied for accomodations and they said that would take me at least a week. I was in the RN at my college but I did not pass two different semesters. I told myself I would never give up, not even if I had to backward before I went forward.

congrats to all of you. Im Marta from NJ and i just wanted to say, i graduated on may 21st, passed my NCLEX on june 13 and still havent found a job, its been 2 weeks and im getting worried. i was wondering if i was the only one? it seems as if everywhere i apply they want experience :(

Just be sure that you are grounded enough to negotiate your first salary correctly. Never let a prospective employer think that you are desperate for work, no matter how desperate you actually might be. I am going into the fifth month of my first LPN job and have known that I should have negotiated a better salary and perhaps (probably) should not have taken the job at all.

You know you will want to stay in that first position for at least a year, so make sure you get what you want before you start. You'll thank yourself later.

Congrats on passing the boards. I cannot answere your question about looking for a job at this point. My concern is the boards. What did you think of the exam? Was it as hard as you expected? I hope you find a job soon. What area of nursing are you applying?

Have you tried contacting old classmates or visiting the career center at the school you attended? One of my favorite quotes:

"It's not what you know, but who you know"

How did you prepare for nclex? I'm doing the Saunder's PN review. I am going to mail in my registration and application tomorrow. When they call me to make an appointment, can I schedule it for 3 weeks down the road? Will I have a choice. I don't want to take it until the end of July or so but I want to mail in my paperwork soon cause I'm not sure how long it will take to process

I basically went through the questions on the CD with my laptop. The program had a feature where you can bookmark questions and return to them later, though it did not work all of the time.

I'm not sure how they do it in other states but in California, I was able to pick a date online and it was pretty easy. Good luck!

:D I just graduated and took the nclex end of June...I was so confident walking in there and when I left I knew i had failed... I was wrong, I PASSED... but I felt like **** for four days.. I started wondering what my new dreams were going to be since I was not going to be a nurse... it was aweful. I bought the Mosby's but didn't use it alot... the test was not a good mix of topics for me either... i think it can hone in on your weakness... I had 88 questions... probably 5 that I really knew that I knew... I studied lab values too and there wasn't a single question about them. Of course if I hadn't studied them there would have been...Right? As far as job hunting... I just moved to a place where there is no shortage of nurses so.... but a friend in Florida i went to school with is interviewing tomorrow for 25.50/hour with an agency. I looked on the State of hawaii website and found they continuously hire LPN's for all different locations, LTC, physician offices, same day surgery centers, -portamedic hires for insurance physicals...gives a flexible schedule... my space jobs is where I found alot of those ads- well good luck on your nclexs' and with job hunting... :twocents:

hello guys, im John from the Philippines. Im a new graduate of a 2 year LPN program and i'm still preparing for my NCLEX-PN exam. Im worried, even if I pass, there is no market of LPN here in the Philippines and I also heard that there is no demand of Filipino LPN's abroad...:crying2:

eldragon, my problem is that the places i went to interview at were all union positions, so i couldn't negotiate pay rates, they are fixed until the union gives a raise every other year and the employees vote on it.

I have an interview next week that is offering me 25/hr which is great, and the highest offer so far so im really hoping i land that position, wish me luck :)

In NJ im finding that there are not much LPN jobs available with all the hospitals closing down in NJ. I've applied for my NY license to expand my field. From my graduating class of about 13 people ive had the most interviews, and i only had 2 since june 15, which is now 1 month. we are all a bit concerned...but im hanging in and not giving up!!!

good luck to all of you!!

Hey.. I graduated in August of 2007.. I failed the first Nclex in Feb 2008.The computer turned off at 85. I thought I passed because I read the entire orange Saunders book for a month. I didn't do the questions on the cd though plus I didn't sleep the night before cause I was still studying and my test was at 8am. So I was so sad. I was thinking of giving up. But I know I had to take a second shot at it. So I had a retest on July 18 2008 (scanned the Kaplan book and read about the strategies on how to take the test and did some questions from the Saunders Cd the night before the test) . My computer kept going until I reached 204 questions and ran out of time. LOL. I really thought I failed. I was so happy when I found out I passed. I was screaming my lungs out and woke everyone up who lives in my house. haha. I was so happy!!! -=D. I did go to church the day I took the test and the day before I found out.. last time I went to church was 2003. So yeah..It's a new beginning for me. I will be going once a week and I promised..So I was on vacation the whole week after I found out I passed and today will be doing my resume so I can start looking for jobs this week. Goodluck with everything and never give up because behind the dark cloud, the sun is still shining! :yeah::coollook::wink2:

I'm glad to say that i have found a job along with most of my classmates, though there are still a few who haven't, i will be working for planned parenthood in NYC!!! cant wait to start training :nurse:

Good luck to you. I took my boards in June, and it was a calm environment and happy faces bringing us in. It wasn't as "cold" as I thought it would be. Good luck to you. I will be thinking of you.
