New L.P.N. Very disappointed!

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

What are some options for L.P.N. jobs that give you more freedom? I love taking care of people and being hands on, i really LOVE getting to know new people! Its exciting for me. However, I guess in my mind gaining an education was supposed to help me gain a higher paying job, and more freedom to havd time with my family.

I'm making great money for a new L.P.N. but the hours are crazy ridiculous. Always changing due to staffing issues at my employer. Something else I have learned, you are either a great nurse or a crappy one, no inbetween!

What are some other job options for me, that would allow me to keep making decent pay but spend more time with my family? Any Advice?

An MD's office. A urgent care clinic. School nursing. Home Health. Teach a CNA class, a Medical Assistant class.

Those are just a few off the top of my head that have hours that are usually M-F, and daytime. If benefits are not a priority, go PRN. Then you have more control on the hours that you would like to work, and because you do not take benefits, higher paying.

Specializes in Primary Care.

MD offices usually have great hours and no holidays!!

Not all employers pay higher rates for PRN/per diem staff; look before you leap.

Working for a "doc in a box" may have its advantages, but be careful... you may not find the work as interesting or challenging. Look at both sides.

Working in an MDs office will not pay as well as LTC, but the hours may work better for you.

Look at hospice.

Doctor's office or clinic, specialists will have more hands-on nursing duties than PCP, or urgent care would be good.

I work in a doctor's office! Great hours, wonderful benefits, and paid holidays! I could not have asked for a better job! It doesn't pay as much as a nursing home or homehealth would, but the pay isn't bad either. And with my guaranteed hours and good benefits, it weighs out evenly.

I worked at nursing rehab as prn. I got good salary and only works 2 x a week and I have time to take care of my little ones.

I graduated in July 2012. I worked graveyard in assisted living, prn in skilled and finally landed a job as a staff nurse in a urology practice. Money is great, no holidays, nights, weekends. The learning experience has been invaluble, and its a great and exciting job, as far as freedom, depending on what you are looking for, if its decent scheduling or flexible schduling you should try per diem work or look for work in a clinic or office setting.
