Published

I need some advice as soon as possible! there are aprx 7 of us adn students finishing our last class before graduation and we are faling because we have a new theory instructor that has never taught before and she reads straight from our med surg book word for word with no examples or details. im wondering if we have any rights? my biggest question- why would the college put a new instructor (that has never taught before) in our last class. this class is the most important worth 12 credits and we are being read to like kinderg. at story hour. Please give advice, i cant take the heartache. HELP!!!:crying2:

Have you tried meeting w/ the instructor outside of class? Have you discussed how this is difficult and asked what can you do do improve performance? Most instructors realize that different people have different learning styles, but she/he won't know you are having problems unless you discuss it w/ them. (A failing grade is not enough; you need to ask for more help.) I would try this first, I would not wait any longer...

There should be a list of compentencies for the class. Are those being met?

i know what you are saying, i love working with students, when they come to my floor, they for some reason always seem to like me also. but we have some of the worst instructors lately, i am told that their just are none available. and i am told that some of the rules have changed, for ex, we use to take the students that were assigned to us and follow them, and report to the instructor or if a procedure was being done she would have to be there, i am told this is not the way anymore, the instructors are worried about their licenses, i have students who have never put in a foley, and are never allowed iv access at all. if a procedure needs to be done the instructor now has to do it and the students just never get the opportunity, i had a student with me and asked her to collect a stool sample out of a pt room and label it and give it to the secretary to send down and check off, the instructor failed that student that week for doing that for me, i had a fit and went to the college myself, your right your not getting the training you need, and what i am telling my students is pick a good floor to start on one where you know you will get help and precepted well, we are with you, but the colleges just do not teach like they use to. you will be fine just do what she says so you do not fail her clinical. get out of their and watch what other nurses are doing pay attention to everything, working with pts, does not come out of a book, it gets you thru the boards, but does not teach people skills, good luck cc

I would just talk to her & tell her how you feel, don't be afraid to, it's your grade on the line, i would be speaking up asap!:wink2:

Be careful...everyone has to start somewhere. No matter what the profession.

However, as a person that just completed nursing school, I can tell you that there is strength in numbers....the more of you that go as a group to complain, will have a higher impact on just a few of you.
