New to High school Nursing

Hello everyone! New here at Allnurses. Hope all is well with everyone. Looking for some tips or help as I am about to begin my first school nursing job at a high school. Coming with nothing but NICU background. Any information will be greatly appreciated! Look forward to hearing from you! Thank you!

I'm happy to know I won't be alone. I won't hide it I'm a bit nervous, but I guess that's normal. New environment. I'm more excited! It's been bittersweet getting to this point.

I will try my best to forge an alliance. Do either of you work prn at the hospital while working at the school full time?

I got a PRN job over the summer at the local hospital in town. I wanted to stay on PRN at my previous FT hospital job but my manager said she didn't want me so BYE.

I got the PRN job because 1) I need the money and 2) I didn't want to lose my skill set in case I ever go back to the hospital FT. I don't foresee that happening but if I move somewhere and it's hard to find a school nurse job, I want options. I do about 2 weekend shifts a month, more if we have a weekday off for something. I plan on doing 2-3 shifts a week over the summer.

I worked PRN at the hospital for 10 years while also working as a school nurse until recently. It is doable.
