Hello School Nurses! It's been a minute since I've logged on. Forgive me in advance, this may be a little long. I need advice. You all have always come through with advice when ever I've posted on here. I'm back to ask the best for advice again. I've been a nurse over 10 years and a High School Nurse over 6 years now. There may be a great opportunity to apply at a middle school closer to my home in a different school district in the near future. I am really torn between leaving the high school I currently work at if I happen to get the job at the middle school. Here's a little more info that I've narrowed my list down to: Current job: Currently work with high schoolers. Best group of kids. I have really enjoyed working with this specific age group. 30 minute drive from home. Starting to see some things that are making me question lots of things about our district and the more I dig, the less happy I am. Seems like morale at my current campus has really gone down. Staff are leaving left and right. Pretty good school health department at the current district I work for. Prospective Middle school campus: 10 minute drive from home Smaller campus. May have a medical assistant assigned in the health clinic working with the school nurse. (This district seems really great about adding a CMA to campuses with a higher census of students). This district pays slightly better. ------------ I'm looking for input. I'd like to know what you might do if you were in my shoes. I know I haven't been offered the job yet. However, give me your experiences working with middle school students. Have any of you gone from the high school to the middle school setting? Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated! Lost your cool? As in your professionalism in front of another family because people keep calling and calling and making you feel like an idiot because they dont have their childs immunizations records? And then the clinic tells the parent of the child that they will not re vaccinate? W t French toast yall?

Attention school nurses! If a student comes to you and requests you assist them and put vaseline on their freshly done tattoo, would you do it? (Work at the high school level). Why or why not? Let me hear your thoughts.

Yes, I had touched base with admin and also with the department in charge of the school nurses in our district. Haven't heard anything yet.

They flat out say they are not coming to pick up the child. A smaller amount of background would be the high schooler coming in for the same symptoms 3 days out of a short 4 day week. Parent has not taken them to the doctor but is aware. Can never get a hold of the parent and when you do, well they aren't happy.

Hi guys! It's been a while. Hope all is going well for you all. If a child comes to your office, 3 days in a row on a short 4 day week and complains of the same symptoms (headache and dizziness), what are you doing for the child? 2/3 days bp is lower and with water intake, comes up. I'm checking vitals, history, asking questions about nutrition, stress, medication they take at home. I ask if they've been to the doctor. I made the call to the parent to come in and pick up the child on the 3rd day and take them to the doctor. The parent was obviously super pissed off about it. (I will not go into detail on the exact words this parent used towards me). I think this warrants further assessment by a doctor. Was I wrong? Parent was very clear they would be making a complaint. I'd like to hear from you guys. Thank you! Happy Holiday Break!

Does anybody else in your school wear scrubs besides the nurse?

I'm at a high school. We designate 2 to 3 days of military registration. My first day back is on the first day of military registration.
