New Here- CCBC Student- Questions

U.S.A. Maryland

First off, hello to everyone:)

I am currently enrolled at CCBC in the pre-clinical phase. I have taken all my pre-req's except for A+P ( Spring 2005), A+P II ( Summer or Fall - depends on if it's offered for Summerl) and Micro ( Fall 2005). Currently I am standing at a 4.0 which *whew* was almost a close call there as I just finished Molecular Cell Bio w/ the professor from well..you know:)

Anyway I have a few questions if anyone here is or has attended the CCBC program.

First- I am a little confused on when it is I can apply. I *believe* I have to get past the A+P's ( or be currently enrolled) right? Which means I couldn't apply until Fall 2005 when I would be "currently" enrolled in Micro and maybe A+P I...and that would be for SPRING 2006 acceptance, correct?

Second- My understanding from my less than "stellar" counselor was that GPA is what it really comes down to...so I am *hoping beyond hope* that if I keep my 4.0 or a high 3. something I will get in on my first try. Question though is there anything OTHER than grades and recommendation letters that would benefit me in getting accepted?

Third:)..... I am a little confused on where I'd be placed for clinicals once I get in. I was talking to a nurse at Howard County Hospital and she told me to petition to do my clinicals there...is that even possible since it's another county????????????

Well that's it for now....thanks in advance for any help!

Hmmm I have no idea! I have never heard of the TEAS. I do know we have to take a dosage exam before we can start the nursing program but that's the only exam I have ever known of.

yeah I heard alot about this test. I know when I went to the nursing info session they said that it would be used starting with the class coming in the spring. There are a couple of posts on the pre nusing student forum about what the test consist of and how the scoring is, they have different names for the test like NET and the name u mentioned. But what is this about u can take bio102 because just yesturday I was looking in the college catalog and I saw that bio221 had pre reqs of bio110 or bio102 and I looked back at bio102 and it said that it wasn't a general ed class. but would it matter if you took bio102 instead. has anyone talked 2 a counselor about this. I was highly upset when every single class(even at different campuses) f bio110 was full. and then the dean f/ biology left like a 10 min. message on his answer machine about how he wasn't going to sign f/ course overload:uhoh3: . which is going to set me back a whole semester.:offtopic:. but anyway it gets frustrating how much we have to go though. you would think good grades and a year or more wait before you can even start ur nursing classes would be enough.

also f/ those of u who did get accepted, what were ur GPA's and how many x's did u apply.

Cnelle..I hear ya. Have you thought about taking the "CLEP" exam to clep out of BIo, and get right into a&P...I plan on taking the CLEP in April. It gives me a good 4 months to study on my own. I take online courses through CCBC, so I'm used to independently studying. You should look into it, so you won't be set back a semester. Go to the library, and search online for info about the CLEp, and they'll give you practice tests, and guides for the BIo one.

Good Luck!

I have to take the exam by March in order to be considered for the fall. All of this work just to be considered!!! I just want to get accepted and begin already. A girl in one of my classes has applied three times and still hasn't gotten in. She had one 'C'.

They definitely weigh different htings. What did she have the C in? If it was a science, yeah, forget it! But, I have a friend who had 2 C's this past semester and got in! One was in Speech, the other in Intro to Sociology. BUT her sciences were all A's and 1 b. Everyone is different! So don't lose hope!

Yeah i'm taking my first online course class this semester (eng102). I'm looking into it as of today. It's definately worth the shot. Thanks f/ the advice.

Here's the book website for Bio 110. If you are going to CLEP you may want to use this as a reference. There are chapter quizzes and everything to help you. We covered every chapter up to Darwinian Evolution.

There is also a disc that came with the book. I don't have any need for it anymore so if you'd like it I can send it to you...just send me a PM.

Also, if you don't CLEP....you have a really good shot of getting into Bio 110 still .. especially w/ Dalton...she basically tells everyone the 1rst day that if you are taking her course just to satisfy a Gen Ed to GET OUT....and ummm we lost like 10 people just that first day...so that opened up 10 slots.
