New Here- CCBC Student- Questions

Published

First off, hello to everyone:)

I am currently enrolled at CCBC in the pre-clinical phase. I have taken all my pre-req's except for A+P ( Spring 2005), A+P II ( Summer or Fall - depends on if it's offered for Summerl) and Micro ( Fall 2005). Currently I am standing at a 4.0 which *whew* was almost a close call there as I just finished Molecular Cell Bio w/ the professor from well..you know:)

Anyway I have a few questions if anyone here is or has attended the CCBC program.

First- I am a little confused on when it is I can apply. I *believe* I have to get past the A+P's ( or be currently enrolled) right? Which means I couldn't apply until Fall 2005 when I would be "currently" enrolled in Micro and maybe A+P I...and that would be for SPRING 2006 acceptance, correct?

Second- My understanding from my less than "stellar" counselor was that GPA is what it really comes down to...so I am *hoping beyond hope* that if I keep my 4.0 or a high 3. something I will get in on my first try. Question though is there anything OTHER than grades and recommendation letters that would benefit me in getting accepted?

Third:)..... I am a little confused on where I'd be placed for clinicals once I get in. I was talking to a nurse at Howard County Hospital and she told me to petition to do my clinicals there...is that even possible since it's another county????????????

Well that's it for now....thanks in advance for any help!

Yeah according to the little chart which shows which classes go into A+PI there are 2 choices. 102 or 110. I know A+P I starts off with a LOT of what we did in 110 ( chem+organelles,etc- but its very brief). 102 doesn't have a lab...110 does. It was a LONG semester ha ha ha. I held on to a 90.2 ish in lecture the entire time and had a 95 in lab. The final was enough to make my head spin lol...I have NO idea how I did on it..but I know I didn't get an A ( unless I am undercutting myself some points here ha ha)...I assume my lab (25% of grade) pulled me back into A range for the overall grade...I crunched numbers at the end and basically understood I could get an A or a B or a HIGH C on the final and still pull the A out w/ lab.

Wow! Congrats! I am so not a science person (I know, I'm in for it!!) I would love to keep in touch, since we're basically in the same program, and seems we're at the same phase. What pre-req's do you have left? Just sciences? I'm taking my Math & Psych103 this semester, then onto my sciences!!

Okay, got your response. So you could either take INTRo or molecular bio? I'm going to clep bio, I had it in college, but it was past 6 years ago....my sister, who went through nursing a few years back, says she doesn't understand why intro is a pre-req...that A&P1&2 is totally different than bio!

Also if you have taken Bio before you prob don't even need to clep it. When I enrolled at CCBC I had been out of college for 10 years..and ALL my past grades transferred...the "length of time" rule didn't apply anymore ( rules changed)..so as long as the course you took is an equivalent of what CCBC offers you will get credit. I got Psych 101,Speech 101, English 101 transferred and it had been 10 years.

Just the sciences. I am done w/ everything else. Psych 103 was a fun class..I took it over the summer this past yr. I took it in Owings Mills...it's pretty easy. I took Statistics for my math this past semester...also got an A and my professor was an "adjunct" one...her name was Jefferies and she was AWESOME.

Definately keep in touch!

Hey!!! What do you guys know about the TEAS? I applied for the nursing program for the fall and was told I have to take the TEAS. It's some kind of exam that you have to sign up for. It takes four hours and costs $35.00. They said it's a new requirement to get into the CCBC RN program.:uhoh21:

This is the first I've heard of it!! I can't believe they're adding this, too!! I wonder how heavily the results weigh on the decision process????

They didn't say how heavily it would weigh, only that it would. Who know what they will add next. It is really frustrating.

I have to take the exam by March in order to be considered for the fall. All of this work just to be considered!!! I just want to get accepted and begin already. A girl in one of my classes has applied three times and still hasn't gotten in. She had one 'C'.
