First off, hello to everyone:)
I am currently enrolled at CCBC in the pre-clinical phase. I have taken all my pre-req's except for A+P ( Spring 2005), A+P II ( Summer or Fall - depends on if it's offered for Summerl) and Micro ( Fall 2005). Currently I am standing at a 4.0 which *whew* was almost a close call there as I just finished Molecular Cell Bio w/ the professor from well..you know:)
Anyway I have a few questions if anyone here is or has attended the CCBC program.
First- I am a little confused on when it is I can apply. I *believe* I have to get past the A+P's ( or be currently enrolled) right? Which means I couldn't apply until Fall 2005 when I would be "currently" enrolled in Micro and maybe A+P I...and that would be for SPRING 2006 acceptance, correct?
Second- My understanding from my less than "stellar" counselor was that GPA is what it really comes down to...so I am *hoping beyond hope* that if I keep my 4.0 or a high 3. something I will get in on my first try. Question though is there anything OTHER than grades and recommendation letters that would benefit me in getting accepted?
Third:)..... I am a little confused on where I'd be placed for clinicals once I get in. I was talking to a nurse at Howard County Hospital and she told me to petition to do my clinicals there...is that even possible since it's another county????????????
Well that's it for now....thanks in advance for any help!

Hello
to answer your questions:
First it varies when you can apply depending on the school. Are you going to stay at CCBC or are you going to transfer some where else. Yes GPA really matters some community colleges look at other degrees other schools may require recommendations and a letter from the prospective student. As far as clinicals the individual schools usually have certain hospitals where they do clinicals. Check with the school and they will tell you even though it is out of the county you may still go there I have been in clinicals that are not in the same county as where my school is (which is good for me because they are usually closer to home). Feel free to ask any other questions.
:) Good Luck
I am planning on staying at CCBC to achieve my RN ( associates)....as much as I would love to transfer to a 4 yr for my BSN...which I WILL eventually...due to divorce, etc I really need to get my RN ASAP ( sadly...for the job..which I look forward to but wish I wasn't as *rushed* as I am now)...this means just staying at CCBC and getting it and then finishing up BSN when I get spare time.
I appreciate your quick response:)

I currently attend CCBC too. As far as the clinicals go; they pretty much decide where you will go. They have information sessions coming up in Feb. and March if you have further questions. :)

about your question on when you can apply, you can apply when you finish or are enrolled in A&P II. if you apply and get accepted u could do the micro in a summer session they offer all the sciences in every semester except f/ the winter. When I went to the nursing info session I asked the counselor what was the lowest GPA of the students accepted, (I got the impression she didn't really want to say) but she said although they didn't have that info f/ 2004 .... 2003 lowest GPA f/ the eve/weekend program was a 3.0 I don't think she ever mentioned what is was f/ the day. I would surely like to know if u don't get accepted w/ that GPA. i'm taking bio 110 this spring (pray f/ me).
Having the right professor can really help. Have you ever visited www.ratemyprofessor.com? There is a certain professor that I would not recommend. I don't want to say names but if you go on that site you will know who to avoid if at all possible.
I *think* I know who you are referring to about the professor you wouldn't recommend ( she rated a 1.4 overall?) Anyway...I had her... I got an A but heavens to betsy it wasn't easy. I felt mentally drained all semester.
