New health care bill..

What does the new Health Care bill mean for Nurses?

Job wise? Finical Wise? Etc?

Strong standpoint! Good for you!! I HATE INSURANCE COMPANIES! I paid for years for dental insurance and then when my daughter needs her wisdom teeth out, they file it under medical and tell me I'll need $1200 to have it done! What the hell am I paying for dental then??????????????

500 billion in reduced reimbursements to hospitals? well what does that spell for the average nurse...reduction in wages, reduced hrs and bennifits, also throw in layoffs of nursing and support staff. funny, all the housekeeping and janitorial staff are applauding the bill passing, but yet when our hospital starts feeling the pain from not getting reimbursements their jobs will be some of the first to be eliminated.

And I hope that the nurses who voted for Obama and who are blindly and ignorantly applauding this ill-conceived legislation will be next to go.

No disrespect for all of those in favor of nationalized healthcare, but how many of you have lived in a country with government-run healthcare? how many of you actually are married to someone that is from another country other than America? I'm assuming not many of you!! So, basically you're relying on the words coming from the likes of Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Biden, Obama...yada, yada, yada!! (oh, and by the way, I am a Democrat before you decide to hit your keyboards in response to this message and I didn't vote for Obama either, so don't write back and say "you reap what you sew!!) I was a flight attendant for 12 years, traveled all around the world, and even moved to England for awhile. Their healthcare sucks, to put it mildly!! If you have any questions about what government-run healthcare looks like, look at an Englishman's teeth and there's your answer!! I married a man from Canada...things are so screwed up with their healhcare system, that people have to wait 9 months to get an MRI, like my mother-in-law!! Any of you that think this Healthcare bill will be good for our country I ask you..."What have you been smoking and where can I get some, because I want to live in La-La Land too!!!" :lol2:

Hence, you should work for free since you are so charitable? Tell you what, since some of us have children to support, why don't you donate your wages that way those of us who have bills can continue to live, since we are so money hungry and everything.....

What I was getting at, is that you should be thankful you have a job in the first place. Is your life honestly going to fall to shambles if you don't get a raise this year? Money is tight EVERYWHERE. EVERYONE is having to hold on to their pennies a little tighter than before; this reform bill isn't the cause of that. You can put much of that blame on Bush's war greedy outlook - send more troops, lets have more people die, more money to fund a war that a majority of our nation doesn't want to be a part of, blah blah blah.

There are many people out there, probably just like you, with a family to feed that are relying on some sort of government aid in order to pay their bills and support their children. Should they be denied the same health care that you are giving and also receiving?

Oh, and by the way, I have no wages. I've been unemployed for over a year now, trying to find a job. So don't think that I'm some richie that isn't concerned about money. I've got bills to pay as well. And I see NO paycheck coming in. Maybe that's why I'm willing to not get paid so much if/when I finally do get a job - I'm used to being broke and having to save whatever it is I do have.

It's not like that for everyone...All of my family lives in Canada. When my cousin needed an MRI for suspected breast cancer, she received it within 2 weeks. Her treatments quickly followed and she is now cancer free. Another cousin just had eye surgery...all on the governments dime. They're both fine and well and have little complaints about the health care there.

Oh really!!! Which Province?!!! Because you and I both know it's not like that in all of Canada!!

Why are you getting so defensive? All I said was that while your mother-in-law waiting months for an MRI, someone in my family was able to get it done in a matter of weeks. Why would you argue a fact? I'm not saying my family is better than yours and therefore was rightfully treated faster than your family. It's not like there is one MRI machine in all of Canada and my family cut in line... I was just showing another side of the coin - that it is possible to obtain quality healthcare when it's needed.

And if you must know, my family is from Ontario, and no they don't live in the big cities.

I'm not on the defensive...You're arguing with yourself !! I'm elated that your family got the healthcare that they deserve, but there are so many Canadians throughout all of Canada who do not!! Hence, my mother-in-law. You can not dispute that fact, and you know nothing about my familial situation nor should you assume to. And I am not accusing you or your family of robbing my family of healthcare!! What the heck is a matter with you? I've read all your post this morning and it's clear you're trying to pick a fight. Now enough...

pick a fight? not really, ms. exclamation point. There are several people in here complaining on how this bill will affect them (for the worse). I think that's a little selfish of them. There are many people out there less fortunate.

I've said it before, i'm unemployed, receive no paycheck, pay for my own insurance, and the rest of my bills. I'm not trying to preach from my 'high horse'. I'm no better off than any of you, or any other american struggling to make ends meet.

It's selfish of people to be concerned about how some major legislation may affect their ability to provide for their families? Really? Here's an idea. When you DO find a job, you and all your fellow bleeding-heart do-gooders who think we're bad and mean for wanting to keep some of our hard-earned money can sign up for a plan to give away 60% ore more of YOUR wages to go toward this socialist agenda, but please, don't stop there. Feel free to contribute even more of YOUR wages to free autos for people; free houses for all; free vacations and whatever else your guilt-ridden minds can conjure up. If enough of you do this, the rest of us can continue to actually make a decent living and can contribute to the needy the way we always have - through our churches and community efforts, NOT through a government freaking mandate. Incidentally, true conservatives - especially those of us who also happen to be practicing the Christian faith - give far more to charities every year than non-Christian "liberals". Liberals are only truly "liberal" when they can mandate it for everyone else it would seem.

Oh my God. Some of you sound like a bunch of high schoolers screaming at the top of your lungs at each other. Sheesh. It give me a headache to read these. It was a simple question, and people get their panties in a wad.

Being from Massachusetts. This bill will most likely not have wage increases for nurses. If anything units will close and nurses will be laid off. Its only a matter of time before Safety net hospital like Boston Medical Center (well respected hospital) close because of low reimbursements.

Wait and see. Its not going to be good over the next decade or so for nurses. The sky is not falling yet..

I don't want a million dollars. I just want to make ends meet.

I am about to graduate from NCSU this summer and will be taking the year "off" to gain experience while I apply...how is this going to effect other applicants like myself that will be applying in the upcoming year and our "way" of practicing once we graduate nursing school?
