New Head Lice Treatment......

Published

Just wondering if anyone has had episodes of parents coloring their students' hair (yes, even in elementary level) to get rid of (or cover up) lice/nits?

I called a male student to preform h/v screening to my office and he informed me that his mom had colored his younger siblings hair the night before because of lice. He then began to tell me how mom had checked him and he was fine, but he was going to get his hair cut short so he would not get them. He said that was how they treated for lice.

I have helped out at our 1-5 grade campus and have had to do head checks and thought some of those babies' hair had looked a shade or two off.

Just crazy....(IMO)

Please pass this website along to anyone with misconceptions. This will help with continuing the education side of it. Using those toxic sprays is no longer recommended because they don't live very long off a human head. Dr. Pollack and his info. have been my go-to for years. His website is IdentifyUS

This article too, is amazing. https://www.pediatricnursing.net/ce/2016/article4005226235.pdf by Deborah J. Pontius.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Great article - I started to give this to my parents and staff when I have a case of lice reported.

LOVE Dr. Pollack! Our local news station just ran an article that quoted a "lice expert" aka someone that works at a lice removal center. She said "putting your heads together to take selfies makes it easier for lice to jump from person to person" O.M.G.

Please forgive me if I am incorrect! However in my particular area, we generally spend a LOT of time in and out of vehicles simply due to our geographic needs (30-40 minutes to and from school), various car-pooling scenarios are also in place. When our local public health department came to our school about 3 years ago to do intervention related to a pretty ugly Super Lice outbreak, they really drilled home the issue with cleaning our cars & corificeats. I wonder if this was just something that they stressed in my area because they are from here and they know how much we are in and out of each other's vehicles? It's not unusual on a typical day to have my kids in at least 2-3 other parent's cars for something, and for my hubs or I to transport 2-3 other people's kids in ours! We live quite a ways from each other so long, frequent commutes to EVERYTHING is normal...
