I went to a nursing job fair today at Javits Center in NYC and found the following companies are hiring new grads (RNs):
RCM Health Care Services (school nursing)
Advanced Medical Staffing
All Care/Onward Healthcare
Americare
Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center
Epic Staffing Services
Horizon Healthcare Staffing
Maimonides Medical Center
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Center
NYU Langone Medical Center
Pearlcare Medical Staffing
TACT Medical Staffing
TheraCare of New York, Inc
Visiting Nurse Regional Home Care
VTA/Nurseworks
Winston Resources
The fair sponsors provided us with a program guide that has address and contact information for each. If anyone would like additional info I will keep the brochure until the weekend. Let me know if you want the contact info for a particular potential employer.
I know that many of them are not ideal jobs but they may be able to provide you with "RN experience" and ongoing use of your skills until the market starts to open up again.

What convention was this at the Javitz? Was it specifically a nursing career fair? I looked on their website but nothing relevant seems to be posted...It would be great if you could supply some of us with a copy of this information...or a way to get it...Thx

Thanks for posting the list, but keep in mind that the company saying that they were accepting resumes from new grads does not necessarily = jobs for new grads. First of all, did you see the lines and stacks of resumes? Secondly, I overheard a conversation at the Beth Israel booth--the recruiter was telling someone that they're so backed up they can't even place the group that was already oriented -- IOW they have a cohort of nurses who already went through orientation, but they don't have jobs for them on the unit!
i'm surprised they even hired new grads because they are notorious with that "sorry, no new grads" message in every job post. good luck to those they already oriented and i hope they get to start soon.
Yes, it was a little crazy! I got the complete listing from the "Reference Guide to Open Positions" given to us in the registration packet.
This was specifically a nursing job fair sponsored by Advance for Nurses (one of the local magazines). The magazine is available for free to anyone who wants it and the job fair was advertised there. Here is their Web site in case you are not aware of them and want to sign up in the future. http://www.dvanceweb.com/events
Yes to all of your observations...but if we want a particular job we need to keep trying (whether we are experienced or not)...also, keep in mind that Beth Israel has their own school of nursing (in addition to being an attractive employer). How about that line at the Mount Sinai booth ?!!!?
I had three goals in mind today:
1. Get credit for the Infection Control course because my license is due to be renewed and I needed the course.
2. Meet with my current employer (Gotham Per Diem, Inc) just to say hello and tell them what a pleasure it is to deal with them.
3. Meet with the Visiting Nurse Service nurse recruiter and ask why my online application of June 26 had not been answered.
I met all my goals. At the VNS booth I was given a similar story - piles and piles of applications, not yet matched with a specific nurse recruiter (they have 18 recruiters), etc, etc. But I will persist until I have what I want or grow too old to care.
BTW - I did already receive one job offer...but it was full time and I'm looking for Per Diem. Jobs are out there we just have to find a match to our needs.
The nurses who have already been oriented at Beth Israel may be from their own school...
The purpose of my post today was to list the employers who specifically advertised themselves at the job fair as "New Grad" friendly. I thought it was some valuable information in this tough job market. When I spoke to a recruiter (Taisa Malinovskaya) at RCM Health Care Services (RCM Health Care Services ) about the difficulty new grads are having she told me that she definitely has openings for new grads as a school nurse.

Thanks for taking the time to share this list. I was at the fair today too, but as a new grad, I didnt have the patience to visit all the booths, just to get the same rejection tale. I've been to six plus career fairs in the tri-state area over the past few months, so I consider myself a professional career fair attendee. I haven't gotten any jobs or opportunities from one yet, but they are excellent for networking and a good way for recruiters to put your face to your resume.
On a happy note while at the fair, I got a call for an interview with a nurse manager from one the hospitals in attendence!!! Then I was able to go up to the nurse recruiter, that performed my HR interview, at their table and personally thank her. Hopefully she'll put in a good word for me. Maybe I was getting a little good karma my way for attending so many fairs
Yes, you're right, I'm a notorious pessimist.
On the one hand, the nurse recruiters from some of the big-name, desirable hospitals did seem genuinely friendly and took the time to read my resume on the spot and even ask some questions. On the other hand, with stacks of 500+ new grad resumes, how could they possibly go through them all?
This was my first career fair, and I didn't think to ask the recruiters what they were looking for in a resume. But there's another fair just like it coming up in November in Queens, with many of the same exhibitors. I'll be sure to ask next time.
