You have to show confidence in what you are taking about and do some research about the hospital. Go with a list of questions to ask the nurse manager and make sure to reheorifice the interview with someone else. Be prepared and it doesn't hurt to take a letter of recommendation from a previous nursing professor to give to the nurse manager.

Good luck!! :D

I think the floor manager is looking for a real passion for oncology. As a new nurse, she isn't going to expect you to know a lot of technical things about chemotherapy or even general nursing. But she will want to see something that separates you from other new grads. She'll want to know that you love oncology and want to do it. To me, that passion is more important than rehearsing answers. Just be yourself and let it show.

Thanks for these suggestions!

Hello,

I am a New Nurse starting on the Oncology floor too! I am super excited and nervous all in one! Glad to see that there are other new nurses on this site who will be starting out in Oncology as well :)

congrats to all of you!

had my interview today with the floor manager today. after the interview she gave me a tour of the floor. Does this me that she wants to hire me? also It was suppose to be for a day shift, but she asked me if I would do a night shift to "get a foot in the door" i dont think i could handle nights as i am not a night person and i have a young family..!!???

Help!!

Hi,

I don't know what area you live in or how bad the market is for new nurses around you; but I would take it! During my interview I was also given a tour and the Nursing Manger left me with the charge nurse for an hour on the floor...... and I got the job! So you have that to be excited about. I wouldn't let the hours worry you too much..... most likely your training will be during the day and if you have to work nights, you do it for a while and get your foot in the door...... If your working 12 hour shifts it will be OK.... you can do it! I'm not a night person either but I know that as a new nurse I have to put my time in:coollook: I would do whatever you have to do to get the JOB!!! Try the nights and if it doesn't work out great maybe the can give you 2 nights and 1 day shift.....

Get in, and get along with everyone; so if you need something to be changed to fit your lifestyle better people will be more apt to do it! Best of luck! :yeah:

To all the new grads getting oncology floor jobs, congrats!!

Did you guys have any experience before you applied, like an internship or externship?

I just want my foot in the door!!
