Congrats! I was supposed to start at Presby in September but I got a call last week from a manager at Children's and had an interview Monday and was told to expect good news by the end of this week! I am very excited. With any luck I'll be on the adolescent medicine floor (9A)!
Do you have any idea about the new grad residency program? Like what classes we have to take, etc.
No, the RN Residency Program is a year long program for all new grads, separate from unit orientation.
I took the Residency Program last year. It was 6 months long for all new grads hospital wide. The residency program offered lots of interesting classes in topics relevant to peds, as well as having interesting speakers come in. The residency program, last year anyway, was only open to new grads that started June-Aug. If you did not start in the summer months, you would only get your floor's orientation, not the residency program.
Hey lsm332...check out this link...it has the nurse recruitment information.
Hi, I work at CHP as a transporter on 3rd shift and your question caught my eye. The number for HR is 412-692-7500. There are many Nurse recruiters here that you may speak to depending on where you would like to work in the hospital. To apply for a position go to www.upmc.com and select Children's Hospital in the drop down menu if you only want to apply here. That will have a complete listing of the available positions. They do not take applications over the phone or through the mail. Good Luck!!

Hey all!
I am new to this site, and just wanted to say hello to everyone! I graduated this past spring with by Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and passed my boards a little over a month ago! I wanted to see if anyone out there is going to be working at the new Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. I start in the PICU there next month. Is anyone else out there going to be working in their PICU? I haven't even been inside the new hospital yet, but I hear it's absolutely amazing! I hear the PICU is VERY, very nice as well!
ALSO-for any of you experienced PICU nurses out there, is there any advice you would give to a new grad starting out in the PICU? I am very excited but also quite nervous...which I'm assuming is normal. I have grown up working with children all my life, and did my student nurse internship in the NICU at a Pittsburgh hospital and loved it! I am just a little bit nervous about the PICU. Any words of a wisdom from any seasoned nurses out there for a new grad??? Any advice would be much appreciated :nuke: I just can't wait to get started doing what I love...working, loving, comforting, and caring for/with children and their families!!!
Thanks for your time, and I look forward to talking with you all soon!
