New Grad Should I take a job as a call center RN

Hi

I need some help as well as some adivse. I'am a recent graduate from Gwynedd Mercy College I passed my boards in July and I cannot find anything. I graduated with my ASN and I'm currently enrolled for my bachelors which will take me a year to complete. The problem with the job hunting is that I have been told no by almoost every hospital in Phila and surrounding area becuase I dont have my bachelors, and I have been also been told no becuase I dont have any experience.I also have been told no by almost every nursing home becuase they state that they dont have it in their budget to hire a new grad without experience. Just recently I have been offered a job at pharmaceutical company working as a call center nurse. The pay is very low only starting at $20 and hour and Im not sure since I'am a new nurse with no experience If I should take this position becuase mainly i want to do the clinical aspect of nursing and i'am afraid about accepting this position as a new nurse. Could you please give some advise do u think i should take the call center job or just keep looking for a position as a clinical nurse

It's only been a month since you passed so it is still early. However having a job and making some money is better than nothing. Nothing wrong with having something to hold you over while you keep looking.

Why not take the job and keep looking. You can earn money, save, or pay back your loans. When you find something that you really want to do you can go do that. Currently the market is tight, you may pass this opportunity over and then be jobless for a while.

as a nursing student in philly this is disheartening to hear. i wish u luck i wanted my associates so i can be working while working on BSN (bsn requires SO MANY fluff credits)

^You have an ASN, few job prospects in a tight job market, but will have your BSN in a year. You've been offered a $42,000 position, while the average bachelors college grad salary is $46,000. Can you live on that?

You'll be in a stronger position to score that clinical job a year from now.

It's been written before, it's your 1st job, not your last.

You can decline; see how long you can delay giving them a decision while continuing your search; take the job and search for a new one while working and going to school; or take the job, focus on the BSN and start your post-grad search in the spring.

what would you do as a call center nurse for a pharmaceutical company? I imagine this would be easier than if you worked for a clinic or doctors office. Would you just be talking to people having questions over their meds and ? side effects of? If so you could probably study the meds in question or you would get training from the pharm company?

I've never heard of a call center nurse for a pharma company? Has anyone else? This sounds like an interesting job.

Most call centers have an online database you can consult to answer the caller's question. I think you should be able to handle it. I agree with advice others have given you -- take the job and keep looking!
