Hi all,
I'm one of those new grad RNs who can't find a job just yet.
In the mean time, I'd very much like to volunteer as an RN in southern CA, Los Angeles County or Orange County. I love love love to use my hard-earned status soooo much. Every time I see a nurse, I'm just jealous!!! I love nursing and I'd do it for free. Money is tight but not too tight for me (I know I'm lucky!) Of course, volunteering as an RN is also a good thing so that I can find a job later on :)
Do you happen to know where I might be able to volunteer as an RN?
Thanks a lot

Take a look at the NeedyMeds website. Click on Free Clinics, then you can search for clinics by zip code or by clicking on your state on a map. I've been mostly unemployed since graduation though at the moment I'm working seasonally as a flu shot nurse; you might try that. I volunteer at a free clinic near my home. I like it.

Go check out carenow usa.. I signed up for their free medical clinic that's going to be on October. It's going to be held at LA sports complex.

Thanks to hotflashion for posting that Needymeds link. You are awesome! I'm a new grad RN--graduated in May and just don't know about enough resources for volunteering. I'm just "discovering" outpatient day surgery clinics, dialysis centers, etc for alternate work and only knew of a few clinics. I'm going to check these out for more volunteer and career opportunities.

Nihaojailan, thank you so much for your link to CareNow. I have been looking for volunteer opportunities. I am thrilled and have passed this along on Facebook.
I also volunteered with Remote Area Medical in the LA Stadium last year. Unfortunately, they do not have any LA clinics in their schedule.

I believe most public health depts also have volunteer programs -not sure if you would be doing RN volunteering but it would be a great experience and maybe a foot in the door.

When I graduated I started volunteering at my a local city's free clinic. They are not picky at all when it comes to volunteers--if you're a new grad or not, they'll happily take you on! And the nice thing is that in a clinic, you will do RN tasks...maybe not along the line of med-surg nursing floor tasks, but you will do teaching, basic assessments, vaccinations, and blood draws, just to name a few.

They actually need volunteers! they're still encouraging people to volunteer!
Fun Fact: Dr. Oz volunteered and he'll be present as a general physician.
