I graduate in April and I was offered a position in L&D at $25.50/hr + $3000 relocation bonus. Is this low, high, average?
Thanks!
I think that is low for San Diego. Why don't you scout on Sacramento areas?Kaiser or Sutter? I heard the are offering 32-33/ hr for new grads, and bennies are good.
In Spring of 2003 I talked to some folks from Monterey Peninsula Hospital and they were hiring new grads at $30/hr.
I can think of worse places to live...

Hello,I'm due to graduate this May for my RN degree. I'm currently here in NY and I get my nursing education here. Right after graduation, my family and I will be moving back to California (Lancaster/Palmdale) and this is where I'll be practicing. My question is, does any of you know of an agency that I can contact to start my career there in SoCal? I plan to take the NCLEX-RN sometime in July or August. I've heard that agencies pay more than the actual place of employment (hospitals). Is this true or is there a catch or fine prints that's why these agencies pay higher than hospitals? What is the starting rate for newgrads (with no previous experience but clinical experience from nursing school) there in SoCal, particularly Lancaster/Palmdale area? Your feedback is much appreciated. Thanks!
You need to get at least one year of experience under your belt before you should consider any type of agency nursing. As an agnecy nurse, you are expected just to be able to jump back in without any type of orientation, other than where the med room is and where the code cart is, possibly the type of defibrillator that is used.
Palmdale/Lancaster are going to be on the lower side of salaries because of the cost of living there compared to other areas in the state.
