New Grad RN starting salary

Published

I graduate in April and I was offered a position in L&D at $25.50/hr + $3000 relocation bonus. Is this low, high, average?

Thanks!

I guess it depends where you live, shift differentials, bennies, etc. Sounds pretty good for east coast, where I live.:coollook:

Not sure about bennies or shift differentials yet. All I know is the hourly rate... The position is in San Diego.

for a new grad in southern cal, that is the usual rate. most hospitals give sign on bonus of 5t for 1 yr commitment. additional 3 per hour for pm shifts.

In Maryland, starting base is around 22.00 with 3 for evenings, 4 for nights and an additional 2 for weekends. 3K sign on, with 3 weeks vacation, 9 holidays, 2 "float days", 10 sick days, and 1-2 pay rate increases/year. Not bad....

Good luck!

I think that is low for San Diego. Why don't you scout on Sacramento areas?Kaiser or Sutter? I heard the are offering 32-33/ hr for new grads, and bennies are good.

25.00 is normal for SD and LA. Its higher where I live in the Bay, around 33-35 starting. But my house will cost a whole lot more.. but I love the bay! I grew up in SD and was ready for something new.. but yeah 25 is common in Socal..

I didn't realize the bay area was more expensive to live in than SD?

Well, it depends what neighborhood you are in.. but generally the bay seems more expensive. My parents' house in SD could probably sell for about 550,000. Its 4 bed and 3 bath, and well taken care of, built in 1984. I worked in a real estate office this last year and saw 2 bedroom pieces of crap sell for more than that in San Francisco. Other things are more expensive up here; not just houses. I noticed that I pay about 35 dollars for an oil change here, while back home it was 15. Little things like that. So yeah, in some places the home prices are similar, but it depends on where it is located.
