I live in MA and am graduating RN school in May with an associates degree. Job market is brutal up here. I have heard I have a better shot of getting a new grad job in RI...any truth to this? Even if not I think it is probaly worth applying (everywhere!!). Does anyone have any names of hospitals, rehabs..etc on the MA/RI line? Thanks for any input you may have.
I'm in my 4th (out of 6) semester of a BSN program in RI, and I can tell you that the grads of my program are having a tough time finding jobs locally. Many of the May graduates had to move out of state (I remember a few specifically going to Texas) to find employment. I would say RI should not be on the top of your list for places to apply, unfortunately (with our lovely 13% unemployment rate!)
Good luck, and congrats on almost being done!!
I went to school up in boston and was determined to stay there! but the job market had other plans. I grew up in RI so i started putting my applications in through lifespan, its RI hospital, miriam hospital and newport hospital. I ended up getting a job at RI hospital, I guess I just lucked out because its hard to get in there. don't give up! it took me 8 months to find a job after graduation but you can do it!
Good luck!
Look at Lifespan....I know at Newport, where I work, they were interviewing A LOT of new grad RNs....lots of retiring RNs!!!
RIH is hard to get into...I think it has a lot to do with unions or something, to be perfectly honest I'm not very aware of the situation there. But I would recommend looking at any Lifespan hospital. I've been at Newport for just about 6 months as a CNA, and I LOVE it here....they really take good care of their employees!
