New grad RN pay in a LTC

Published

I was wondering if someone can answer me this question. I graduated 6 weeks ago from an ADN program, and I passed my NCLEX-RN a few days ago. I was offered a position as a new grad night shift RN in a sub acute LTC facility in a small town 80 miles north of Phoenix. However they have not discussed pay or benefits with me yet. I don't want to ask yet, but what would be a reasonable amount to expect for a new grad RN in a small remote town in Northern AZ. Thanks,

It is more expensive to live in northern AZ than Phoenix. The housing

definitely costs more. I would expect pay to match Phoenix pay at least.

Sorry, I don't know what new grad LTC pays in Phoenix.

Congrats! :D

Thanks there. I hope I can get at least 22/hr plus night shift allowance. Some of my class mates that got new grad jobs at the local hospital are starting at 26/hr base pay. I know money isn't everything, but I would like ok pay. I like you profile picture there. Hope I can get a dog soon once I'm settled.

Well, I worked at a sub acute LTC about 80 miles north of Phoenix as an LPN while I was in school :-) Not sure if its the same facility but I am willing to bet theres a good chance it is since there isnt much up that way. As an LPN I made 24 an hour, and even though I left after graduating with my RN, a few of my classmates stayed and were making about 30 as charge. RNs in that facility are almost always working as charge after graduation because most of the med passes are done by LPN's. Charge RN did PICC dressing changes, CNA assignments, IV antibiotics etc. The rule was, if you were charge, you made 30-31 as an RN. If you were working the floor and not yet assigned as charge it was a few dollars an hour less. I forget how much shift dif was, with no differentials for weekends. This was 2008-2009. I image wages are very similar still.

are they still hiring?? did you take the job and do you like it? i am still looking for a job but i would like a ltc position i think.

Where at!? Please share

$22 as an RN? You are totally short changing yourself. Especially for LTC. Hospitals get away with a lower pay rate because their patient ratio is less, but LTC as an RN, nothing less than $28/base. Would be fair for a new grad.

$28.00-$32.00 is average for a new graduate RN in LTC.

Mesa Good Shepherd, East Valley Healthcare are always hiring
