New Grad RN new to Denver.. Any help with finding a job?

Nurses New Nurse

Hello fellow RNs,

I am a new graduate RN. I moved to Denver, CO in December and am currently looking for a job at a hospital. It seems like it is very difficult for a New grad RN to find a job in Denver. I have been applying to every hospital in the Denver area but have not heard anything yet. At this point I am open to any RN positions.. even in clinics, home health, nursing homes, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities ... and anywhere else that hires new grads. Can anyone give me direction as to what I can do? where there are new grad hirings? How the hiring process works in Denver?. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in Colorado to give me any direction or refer me. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm in Denver...graduated in May 2010 and started working in September-only because I knew people who got me a job! It's ridiculous here, I have friends who still don't have jobs. If you're willing to drive, I know of a few people who got interviews and offers at nursing homes in the Boulder area. Good luck, it's tough here! I have one friend who is driving 4 hours to Lamar, CO each week for work...she has two little kids and a husband who stay in Denver!

Thanks for the information Peanutter 1. I just got a call for an interview at a nursing home near my area but I have never done any interviews before. Would you happen to know what kind of questions I should expect at a nursing home interview? She said the interview will be short about 30-40 min.

I have started to look out of state. It is crazy here. I got some advice on here to go to the hospital in person.. It didn't do me much good. There was not even a nurse recruiter there. I talked to two very nice people. One told me that you really need to know someone to get a job. I was also told by HR just to apply online. 100+ applications and I have not even gotten 1 interview. If you are thinking about moving here or going to nursing school here don't do it. From what I hear though it is tough in a lot of places. I have a chance at a good job in another state. I actually talked to a recruiter on the phone. They were very nice and helpful. The recruiters here don't usually list there phone numbers and they never respond to there e mails. Denver is nice but its not worth all this. Eventually it will bite them in the you know what.. word of mouth will spread.admissions to nursing school will drop...the economy will get better and then they will be hurting for nurses...I just can't wait around for that

I live up in Northern CO and have been applying for a little over a month and no luck yet. I did take a temp position for flu shot clinics for the fall. Its at least something while I keep searching.

Good luck!

Does the job market look any better? I had to leave Denver to move to Lubbock, TX to get a job.
