Sorry if this has been asked before... I just graduated in Dec and passed NCLEX a few weeks ago. I am aware that 2012 is the year to renew our license. Since I just received my license, do I need to renew it by May?

What does your BON say?

Check with your BON but if you passed NCLEX in 2012, you shouldn't need to renew it. it will tell you the exact expiration date on your license though. I passed NCLEX in 2011 so I have to renew my license this October.

Yes you will have to renew! I am in the same situation...I graduated in December 2011, got licensed on January 30th, 2012, and my license expires in September of 2012. I contacted my BON (Colorado) and they said that I did have to renew...that half of the people renew on even years and the other odd years. You must pay and then you get into the rotation of the every two years. Hope this helps!

I passed in June 2011 and had to renew still in Oct 2011 since RNs are odd years, LPNs are evens. Check with your BON and see your expiration date. I was able to do this online very easily.

In CT we renew yearly regardless of whether you are an LPN or RN. It expires the last day of your birth month. I had friends who test and passed in June 08 and their license expired Dec 31, 2008 b/c their birth month was in Dec. I passed and was licensed in June 08 also, however my license didn't expire until April 30, 2009 b/c my birth month falls in April.
I also had a friend who's birth month was in June, she waited until July to test just in case they granted the license in June and had the last day of June as the expiration date.
Doesn't your license have the expiration date on it? Best place to get an accurate answer is your State BON
Thanks everyone. I got my license and it does say it needs to be renewed by May 31 2012. Where I'm at, nurses renew on the even years. It's just weird because I will have barely used it before it needs to be renewed. :-/ Anyway, thanks for the input! I appreciate it :)
When I posted this, I had not yet received my license in the mail.
I hadn't realized you didn't have your license in hand. Sorry.
