New Grad positions, is anyone in WI hiring?

Published

Hi,

I am graduating from a BSN accelerated program in Green Bay and am looking to move preferrably to Madison. I am open to moving to Milwaukee or even central Wisconsin. It doesn't look like there are many jobs open right now. Does anyone know who is hiring and possibly what the starting pay is?

Specializes in ICU.

I just got hired into the ICU at St. Francis in Milwaukee. While I was going through the interview process, I was told that they would have more spots opening up (I think some are already listed). I was told that they will consider new grads if they have had previous health care experience (ie CNA) and did their senior rotation in the type of unit they are applying for.

I had worked as a CNA in a nursing home for 6 months and did my senior clinical rotation in a PICU. Check out their website. The positions listed look like any other listing (experience preferred, etc) but the description will mention that GNs will be considered.

Specializes in CVICU.

Not sure what kind of experience you need but Fransiscan Skemp, part of the Mayo system out here in La Crosse just today posted for a few RN jobs. New grad RNs usually start at low 20's around here. It's hard getting in anywhere, especially as a new grad, especially if you don't know anyone. Good luck

Specializes in ICU.

I quit nursing last spring with the intention of never looking back. :yeah: I gave away my Cardiology II stethoscope to a student telling her I'll never need it again. Well, 18 months later, after trying this and that for a new profession, getting nowhere fast, and now within the past few months not being able to get hired for ANY job  - I'm renewing my license and going back. With 12 years of ICU experience, the hospitals BETTER be hiring! :uhoh3:

Experienced nurses are finding the job market a little tighter than it used to be but nothing like the desert the poor newbies are wandering around in. With your background you should be able to find something reasonable.

Good luck.

If you go to United Hospital System (Kenosha, Pleasant Prairie) website under job description is says "Entry level" but most of them are NOT entry level!! I found out that after talking to HR. I wouldn't hope for a new grad position in those hospitals unless you know someone inside, or you did your clinicals there or you worked as a nurse intern. Good luck!

I just got hired into their Kenosha Camus ER as a new grad last week! Im excited, but now I just also got called back for an interview at a St. Jospeh's ICU postion in Milwaukee too....hmmmmm choices.

Specializes in pediatrics.
Aspirus Wausau Hospital is hiring on new grads still. In my orientation alone there were 6 new grads hired, so try applying with them. The pay is a little lower than Madison though the cost of living is lower. Good luck!

Wouldn't recommend Aspirus. I personally know of 4 experienced nurses who either quit or who are extremely unhappy with the work environment. Probably why they are still hiring new grads. . .

I heard Wheaton and Select Specialty are great.

Specializes in Hospice.

Select speciality????? really?

I heard Wheaton and Select Specialty are great.

I tried applying for 3 different special care nursery positions at Wheaton and did not even get a call back:(

Could you give me a bit more insight on Aspirus? I live in northern Wisconsin and I'm always curious to hear what people have to say about the hospitals around here. I'll be graduating next May so it's good to have the inside scoop! :nurse:

Apply to Froedtert. The competition is tough, but they are hiring new grads on the med/surg floors. Make sure your application is up to date and your resume has all of your information on it.
