New grad pay

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi All!

I was just offered a job with Banner Good Sam on one of their med/surg floors as a new grad. They want me to come in to HR next week to finish all the new employee paperwork. When they told me I got the job they didn't bring up salary and I didn't want to either because I heard whoever brings up salaRy first, loses :))

Since I am going in next week and they will probably tell me then what my starting pay is, I wanted to ask what is the starting salary? I remember when I first started nursing school, we were told by our clinical faculty that it was around 28-30. I realize with the economy now, it has decreased. But, what should I expect?

Thanks in advance!

How about nurses with 1.5 years of experience as a Rn and 5 years as a Lpn? Would we expect the new grad pay rate? My expectations are around 28.50 to 29.50 base pay is that to extreme?

28/hr was what I received as a new grad before my boards, dayshift! Now that was about 7 yrs ago, IDK what they may be offering now...

And which hospital starts new grads off with 28 an hour? I would love to apply ;)

Mayo starts the BSN new grads at $28.38 day shift PLUS a full $6.15 night shift differential. But they make you work every other weekend and they don't pay differential on the weekends, so that kinda sucked. I did their new grad program but recently left to pursue a facility that better suited my needs, and I unfortunately took a huge pay cut for both my base pay and night shift diff. BUT, they only make us work every 3rd weekend, pay a weekend diff, and immediatly match up to 4% into our retirement, whereas Mayo didn't match at all, regardless of how long you were there. So there are pluses and minuses! But yeah,. I was beyond stoked to be making nearly 36 an hour as a new grad when I worked at Mayo!

When I graduated in 2009 they were paying between 25.00 and 26.50 base pay for new grads. Prior lpn experience and Rn experience increased it depending on how much experience but with the current economy I do believe pay rates have decreased a bit? I dunno? : )

They also start "the new grads with their associates" at $0.60 less... And yes, they hire BSN and Associate New Grads.

I was recently offered a new grad position at MVMC and the pay is not that low at all. Its completely competitive with Banner at 26/hr with 5 dollar night dif.

Do you have a BSN or ADN? And what department?

Abrazo starts New Grads at $25.5 in the ICU with $2 weekend & $4 Night differential. :)

Also, there were rumors that the new grad program paid new nurses like techs during the training period. This is not true. :yeah:

Were you accepted into their new-grad program just recently or something? I applied for it and have been waiting for an interview, I'm curious if anyone on here has gotten in yet.
