New Grad pay in Southeastern Mass

Published

Hey, anyone Working in New Bedford, Fall River , or Nantucket MA? I am graduating in June and moving to Mass. Want to buy a house when I get there, but looks like I'll be getting half the starting wage I would here in CA! Asking for feedback about salary AND working culture. Any responses welcome!

Nantucket is an island. There are very few year round employment opportunities out there and real estate is extremely expensive. It's a 2 hour standard ferry or 1 hr high speed ferry ride from the Cape (Cape Cod to out-of-towners).

New Bedford and Fall River are the polar opposite of Nantucket. They are lower class areas and consistently on lists of "worst places to live in Massachusetts" and higher crime areas in Massachusetts. Why would you want to live there? Actually, googling highest crime towns in Massachusetts led me first to this list, New Bedford and Fall River are 1/2 on the list of worst places to live:

You will make far less in New Bedford or Fall River than you would closer to Boston. Anywhere you work in Massachusetts will pay less than California, though. We don't have mandated ratios either. Do you have a BSN?

MA will pay quite a bit less because it costs a lot less to live there than in CA. Maybe try looking in other areas of MA since the ones you mentioned don't seem to be great options according to the PP. The pay won't be much different, but the housing should be better! :)
