How is the current employment search of new grad Family Nurse practitioners? is it easy to find jobs at this time? Which state are you located? What kind of setting are you hired at? Are there NPs out there who has no luck of finding a job as an NP and still working as an RN? Thanks.

I'm in San Antonio, and have had multiple job offers. In fact, the problem I'm having is the red tape with the BON issuing my license. I passed the AANP 5 weeks ago and am still waiting on the BON. Meanwhile, the job I accepted has been calling every week asking when I can start. Offers were from 100k to around 150k; with benefits ranging from great to terrible. While waiting, working at my old homehealth company has been great. One of the best pieces of advice would be to get plugged in with your local APRN group. I did that immediately after being accepted to school and it has paid off well with great networking as well as job opportunities.

It seems like 130K+ a year is the norm in my area.

Wow, I wish. What part of the country are you in?

northeast. Major metropolitan area

I graduated in December and did not start looking until early February, since I had planned to take a few months off before taking the boards. I live in an urban area in the mid-atlantic. I found a job within a week. I did not get interview requests at every position that I applied for, but I did get an offer at every place I interviewed. Like a lot of the posters here, I found that some jobs had poor pay and benefits, some had great pay and benefits but other terms and conditions were terrible. I took an offer from one practice that did not have the best pay and benefits, but it was in a good location, had lots of NPs on staff for support, I liked the people, and the experience was excellent. The medical director was a good guy, and they had experience hiring new NPs right out of my university.

Every job has pluses and minuses. No job is perfect. I found the application/interview process exhausting (I had to interview three times for most jobs) and I was happy to end it. I figure that if I really hate it, I will leave after one year. In the meantime, I am getting good experience.

I live in Florida and graduated in May as a FNP. I had a two job offers about two months before I graduated. Norm salary here is about 80k, I live in a small beach town. Jobs are pretty good here.
