New Grad Night Shift 11pm-7am, how much can I expect to make?

Published

Im wondering how much can I expect to make as a New Grad ADN, working the 11p-7a shift, 5x a week???

Original poster is freaking out about $28 an hour not being the 60,000 a year they thought it was but it amounts to 58,000 a year so what is the big deal? Plus, if u are FT and they give you benefits that amounts to A LOT per year, probably 5-6,000 depending on your family size.

Hi premedwoahs, Im the original poster and Im not sure how you came up with your figure of 58K but I was 'freaking out' when a poster answered my salary question and said it would be 19-20/hr and prob $1 more for nights. If you do the math correctly and even go with $20/hr x 40 hrs week x 52 weeks/yr, thats $41,600 not $58K/yr and thats before taxes are taken out.

The poster who ambiguously stated they were from "Putnam County" stated the starting salary was approx $28 per hour (reference the above post, I mentioned my 58,000 came from $28 an hour, not your listed $20)

40 hours a week x $28 an hour = $1120 a week x 52 weeks = $58240 per year.

I'm not THAT bad at math :)

To make the most money you might want to consider applying first to facilities that you have found out offer shift differentials. That differential can go a long way to sweeten a night shift position.

you have it wrong, my suprise was in response to a prior post, specifically the one that cited $19-20/hr plus a dollar differential. In any event, $58 wouldnt be the min Im hoping to make in Putnam/Westchester coming out. Im hoping more in the range of 60-65.

RN's not LPN's? Wow that is a big difference. In MA the starting pay for a new grad at our local hospital is $30 for days.

Not sure how close your area is to NYC, as NYC nurses do make more. On average though, in PA new grads will make $30-$35,000 a year. I will say that many nurses on my floor do make $50-60,000 by working double shifts and overtime.

I agree but I must say I have been able to pick out people I know based on their posts. If you find a post by a person in say PA, and you are from PA, you can go to their page and track all posts started by this person and piece together over many posts who this person is just by bits and pieces included in each post. One post saying from PAA, another post mentioning hospital, another post mentioning type of unit you work on, another post mentioning shift, and so on. I dont have the time or care to do this but it can be done very easily.

stacyann1,

For the 10 that are concerned about posting their salaries on a nursing forum and think that there will be a subsequent 'HR meeting', there are prob more that seem to think that is not a real concern, as Ive found evidence of in the sticky thread solely regarding salaries..there are many nurses who've contributed to it. Again I will say, if your username is obvious, then you might have a problem but even then I would say the chances of someone being 'found out and reprimanded' by their HR dept are very small. I think HR has better things to do with their day than scan nursing forums for people talking about salary and trying to 'decode' their username, come on!
