Alright so I graduate this upcoming December (2015). I think about every week I change my mind about my future and want I want to do. I think what would really make me happy is Emergency Medicine. However; I know a lot of hospitals do not hire new grads into those positions. I work as a tech in an Emergency Room right now however;Columbia, MO does not exactly pay well so I was wondering if anyone had any insight of hospitals that hire new grads into speciality units or what hospitals around the US tend to pay better (just for any unit at all).
I've heard Alaska has great incentives because people typically do not want to move there and some things about hospitals in Florida. Just looking to see if someone had a little more information.

Not many specialty units hire new grads unless they have some sort of training program.

If you aren't sure what you want to do or where you want to go you may want to look into nurse residency programs. These typically provided training/mentoring in a specialty unity, with most expecting that the resident-nurse will continue working for the hospital for a specified period of time after completing the residency. Here is a list of U.S. programs from OHSU School of Nursing

Most of the hospitals in Alaska will not hire new grads. Providence in Anchorage has a small new grad program that is *highly* competitive, and tends to go to students who have done clinicals there. Same with Fairbanks Memorial. The hospitals in the larger small communities (I know that sounds oxymoronic, but that's how it is in AK) all want experienced nurses since they are typically too small for specialization and want new hires to have already seen/done a little bit of everything.
An acquaintance just graduated with her BSN last spring and passed the NCLEX in the summer. She had to leave the state (I think she's in MI?) to find a new grad position in ICU where she wanted to be. I know another girl who's graduating with her BSN this spring and has an offer from Providence to work in NICU, but she's been working there as a tech and did clinicals there.
Hope this helps anyone considering moving north
