Hi! I graduated in August, passed boards in September...and never in a million years thought it would be this difficult to find a job (I live in central Florida). I have applied to every (albeit rare) job that gets posted and have only had one interview. Even though I have roots in the area and my husband has a decent job here, I am so desperate that we are considering moving ANYWHERE just so I can find a job.
I need to know where the market is excellent for NPs...where in this country can I find a job?
Thank you!!

Alaska. I just saw a job ad for $150,000/ year minimum + sign-on bonus. Unfortunately, it will the last state I consider moving to.
Golden rule. The more rural and the less undesirable the place is (extreme heat/ extreme cold), the more demand it will be.
If you like idyllic town, you will find a job easily.

It took me one year to land my first NP job and I was referred in by a good friend. I still consider myself lucky. They had three openings. I love in south florida. The market is terrible for us here and the pay is dismal. Good luck and whatever you do, never give up!
Thanks reddgirl...I can't imagine ever giving up...I've been through too much and have way too much in student loan debt to have done all of this for nothing!!! I just can't believe the job market!

I understand. I am in Seattle, and all the positions require "experience". I am not sure if it is worth to uproot the family for a position. I am considering the laser hair removal clinics! Yet, I do not think that position will help me in the future.
Sigh.

Hang in there!!! It took me a year to find a NP job even though I had a few years of bedside nursing experience by the time I graduated with my NP certificate. The position wasn't even posted and I had to take a pay cut but it was a start. I was recommended by one of my NP classmates who were leaving the position. Make sure to keep in touch with your classmates. Almost all of the interviews/offers I got were because my classmate referred me to the MD. It may take some time but don't give up. Good luck!!!
I agree with the above posts. Keep in contact with people, you never know. Most of my offers came from word of mouth.
Thank you, everyone. I am just frustrated. I am not sure if I am seeking a job or a career

Try Highlands county Florida. (Sebring and lake placid, etc) they are always in need of psych NPs and usually offer sign on bonuses too!!!

North Dakota? They are having the biggest economic growth in the US right now from from the energy boom . Apparently Walmart workers are making $20/hr. There HAS to be a need for NPs with all the new residents taking advantage of opportunities like that..

Have you considered doing a locum/travel assignment? Some assignments take new grads . It could help you get some NP experience and locums always pays way more than a regular job. Just a thought. The FL job market is awful :-/ and most jobs here want you to be fluent in Spanish.
