New grad, no job, need help.
Hang in there!!! It took me a year to find a NP job even though I had a few years of bedside nursing experience by the time I graduated with my NP certificate. The position wasn't even posted and I had to take a pay cut but it was a start. I was recommended by one of my NP classmates who were leaving the position. Make sure to keep in touch with your classmates. Almost all of the interviews/offers I got were because my classmate referred me to the MD. It may take some time but don't give up. Good luck!!!

Average Hospice NP pay per visit
That's what I wanted to find out. You're probably right...but I decided to give this job a try and see if I'm going to like it. Thanks for your input. :)

Thank you for all your replies. I really appreciate it. I decided to give it a try. The pay doesn't seem to be too bad...I only hope that they have enough case load to keep me busy. Thanks again. :)

Average Hospice NP pay per visit
This will be only a part-time job...I have another part-time job that would give me more stability and benefits. I won't be getting any benefits with this job. According to the company, NPs can do recertification in CA. I'm considering requesting for a bit higher pay per visit because I don't know how many patients they would be able to give me and to cover for the wear and tear of my car. But I also don't want to come off as being greedy. That's why I would like to find out how much hospice NPs usually make so I can compare this pay with what they are making. Thanks again for your reply.

Average Hospice NP pay per visit
You're right...kind of worried about the wear and tear on my car. That's why I was thinking of asking for a higher pay (esp considering the gas prices and higher cost on fixing cars) but it's hard because I am not familiar with how much hospice NPs are getting paid. Thanks again for your input.

Average Hospice NP pay per visit
Thank you so much for replying. I will probably drive about 20-25 miles away from home at the most. When I asked them how many pt I'm going to see per day, they told me it all depends on how far apart the patients are located. I will also be getting mileage at 51cent per mile. They told me I only have to assess the patients (so each visit probably takes 15-20min at the most) and very minimal paperwork (dictate 4-5 sentences only).

Thank you both for replying. I don't know how many pt I will be seeing in a day. It depends on how far apart the patients are located. I will be getting 51 cent per mile (they told me that's per IRS standard). I think average pay for new NP in the area (within 1 year) is somewhere in the low $40s per hour. The hiring manager told me the visit should only take 15-20 min at the most and charting is very minimal (only have to dictate a few sentences).

Average Hospice NP pay per visit
Hi, I was just offered a Hospice NP position in LA area at $75/visit + mileage. Does this pay seem fair? The position is to re-certify the patients and make sure they are still eligible for hospice care. I have been working in ICU as bedside RN for a little over 4 years and I just recently graduated from NP school 1 year ago. Should I ask for more considering how much gas prices has gone up? I'd really appreciate your advice since I am not really familiar with the nurses' pay in hospice care. Thank you :)

Conducting stress testing in CA
I know there have been a few posts regarding NP conducting stress testings but I still couldn't find the exact answer to my dilemma. The position I was offered is to conduct stress tests at a mobile unit in CA. The mobile unit will go to the contracted physician offices and perform the tests on location. The mobile unit does not have a medical director. As a NP, I will be conducting the stress test but the ordering physicians will be available in their respective offices while the tests are being performed. I couldn't find clear regulation on this at CA BRN's website. Would this be under my scope of practice? I'd really appreciate your replies. Thanks.

Sutter Amador Hospital?
I did my ICU preceptorship at that hospital summer of '06. I had a great experience there. I don't know about the other units, but my experience with the ICU RNs were awesome. They were all very friendly and supportive of me. They worked well together as a team. All the other staff members I met outside the unit were very nice as well. The facility is somewhat new (I think about 2 yr old). In ICU, they used computerized charting system, esp. for assessment charting and drug administrations. Just pm me if you would like to get more information. Hope this helps

My NCLEX shut off at 77 Q
*Arrrrggggghhhh* I honestly don't know what to think. Just like so many of you here, I'm so anxious about my result. I'm trying to convince myself that I passed. 77Q in itself is a good sign, isn't it? I got a lot of priority questions ("which one should the nurse see first?", "what should the nurse do first?", "what is essential/necessary?"). Those are also good signs, right? I got no med math and only 1 ABG question. I'm such a nervous wreck right now. I heard it would take about 1 month to get my official result from the CA board. Some say I might be able to find out in 3 days in their website but I just found out that my school sent my class' transcripts late and they still haven't received it yet. It's soooo frustrating. Anyways...I just wanted to vent since so many of us here are in the same situation. Thanks :)

Cal State Long Beach Students!!!
It is definitely hard to get into CSULB. You have to have good grades to get in. In regards to trimester and basic program, they only do lottery. In a way, it is fair because more students are interested in getting into the trimester than the basic program. When I first got into the program, they put me into the basic program through the lottery. I must admit that I was quite disappointed. However, towards the end of the 1st semester, someone in the trimester program dropped and they offered this spot to basic nursing students. Luckily, I was the one picked to replace the student who dropped. I know it sucks if you get placed into the basic program. But I just wanted to say that even if you get placed into the basic program, there's always hope. Good luck. :)
