New Grad Interviewing for Fast Food

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

This will be my first interview ever! In my entire life!

I'm sure they will question me about being BSN and have thoughts of me jumping at a nursing job if I have the chance. I was licensed in August. Truth is, I don't feel marketable without ever having a job. I am definitely willing to relocate, but I want some job experience before I undergo that.

After much reading here in AN, I feel more dejected and desolate albeit others have job-searched for 1 or even 2 years. Many times I feel I am not cut out to be a nurse or should not be one because I don't have that "calling" or major passion. The more time I spend away from the healthcare environment, the more my fondness for nursing fades.

These fast food/entry level jobs are getting pretty competitive. I am very serious about this interview. I am VERY HAPPY to be granted this interview. I did a lot of research. They may have a few interviews and maybe in groups. What can I say about how long I expect to work there in this interview? I really want this job and I fear my BSN is going to hinder it. I believe they don't want anyone short-term (via research).

OMG! You can be a Navy Nurse with a BSN. I would LOVE to be a nurse in the navy but I don't have a BSN and my BA doesn't count.

You know, I had A LOT of confidence problems, too when I started out. The only work experience I had before nursing school was on campus jobs my freshman and sophomore year in college and then as a substitute teacher after I graduated. My first nursing job actually felt like my *first* job.

A lack of confidence is your problem. You think you are coming up with solutions by saying you don't have work experience and then I see you are making a dozen and a half excuses as to why you can't do anything else. You did a GOOD thing by getting a BSN and becoming an RN. You need to pat yourself on the back for that.

To be honest, to be PERFECTLY honest, you aren't ready to be a nurse. If you are this freaked out by the job hunt, you will have a harder time actually doing the job once you get one. And that will only mess with your head more. A previous poster mentioned seeing a doctor about getting some help - I think you might need to take care of yourself for a while.

Some new grads are lucky enough to still be supported by your parents. If you are in that situation, take advantage of it and get some help. Get some counseling. You may have to take a few years off to get your emotional ducks in a row. It won't hurt you, especially if you take a refresher course. Or you might realize that nursing isn't for you. Or you might realize you made the right choice and it IS for you. But get some help. And posting on All Nurses isn't going to get you the help you need. YOu need the Big Guns.

Best of luck, Sweetie. I hope you can find some peace.

I will be sticking with volunteering for now. Are you a new grad? I know that you can volunteer as a RN but they usually require experience for that. I would love to do something like that.

Yes, I'm a new grad- I started orientation at my new job about a month ago. Besides local clinics, I've heard of people volunteering as RNs at the Red Cross and blood drives, at big sporting events, and such diverse environments as churches and health fairs.

As day by day goes by, I've noticed my mind deteriorating. The other day I called to ask about the time/date of flu clinic and I couldn't decide how to put into words! It was that bad! =/ I'm having trouble talking to strangers/acquaintances and communicating with family and friends. I don't even know how I would communicate effectively with MDs, family, and patients.

I've actually been thinking that lately, that I have to fix myself first. I've had major problems already before in my past, and I got better but I've never really transcended it. This sucks. This would be embarrassing for my family. This is such a shame and disappointment. Well, I'm out for now. I have to figure out.....what I should do next............after a good cry

Remember to stop in and see your doctor. Finding a nursing position can be a lot of stress. An additional support system is really helpful.

I lied. I didn't give up. I am looking into a few home health places. I just got one home health job and will be orienting. I'm thinking about signing up with different agencies too because this all depends on census. I am so frustrated with hospitals that I am going to do whatever it takes to succeed here. I'll show em. I am going to review nursing stuff right now!!

Neurotic I'm glad you've found something...I also got a job offer this week( finally!) ...it at a local clinic , but its something and a good start. Hope all goes well keep is updated on your nursing journey :)

I know that California has a bad market of RN. Have you thought about relocating? I know people that left CA to other states and found jobs within a month. Have you tired nursing homes, hospice, home health, dialysis centers, MD offices? Don't put all your eggs in the hospital basket. Look for other opportunities!!! You are a licensed RN!! How long have you been looking for a job as an RN?

OMG you finished your NCLEX in August, and you made this post in September...so barely 2 MONTHS go by and you're already discouraged? And now it is nearly November...so it's still only been 3 months.

I understand feeling like this after a year, but after such a short period of time? Especially in this market when you know it's hard?
