  1. MD Anderson in Houston Texas will have a NEw GRad JOB fair on March 4th. Cyfair Med Center and Houston NW hospital will reopen their versant program in March 2014. Keep looking on their website and the deadline will be May/June. Also go to various Health Care Fair. Some are open to new grads even if not advertised. Make sure you dress appropriately, with copies of your resume, recommendation letters and your Nursing License. Good luck!!!
  2. I know a lot of LVNs that did the online program - bridge from LVN to RN. They cannot seem to pass NCLEX Rn because they had a lousy foundation. They have taken it over 3 times and still not passing. I would suggest that you enroll in a better and more organized program. Good luck.
  3. Good News!!!!!!. I went to a job fair yesterday at a hospital. I got offered a job on the spot on the Post-Acute/SNF/Rehab Unit. I am really happy and excited. I cannot wait to begin my nursing journey.
  4. Thanks. What is the best way to reach the Nursing Mangers? I picked up a senior's guide and literally called all the SNF/ Nursing Homes in the book ( within 25miles proximity of my home) and was told that they were not hiring. So to make a lasting impression would you recommend that I do the following: is it by walk-ins, online applications, faxing my resume or by mailing it. Or a combination of all of them. Thanks again for your response.
  5. I am a new RN grad. I do not have experience as an RN. However, I have experience as a staffing coordinator and billing. I have tried to get into SNF/LTC in my area, but they are not hiring new grad RN. RN positions available are for MDS and manager. The only direct care position are for experienced LVN. How can I get into this field as a new grad RN. Thanks.
  6. Hello DONs/ADONs~. I am a more mature new grad in my 30's and my passion is Geriatrics. I have a BSN and also a BBA. I have worked as a Client Care Coordinator(actually I was the owner of a small non -medical home care agency). I started this business to earn an income while having my babies ( raising them) and getting my degrees. I have always wanted to be a nurse in the SNF/LTC. Besides my home care agency, I worked as a staffing coordinator at other home care agencies and also worked as a billing specialist for a medical billing firm. My goal eventually after 5 to 10 years would be a DON/ADON. I graduated in December 2013. I just passed my boards and I have been looking for a job in a LTC/SNF. The problem I am encountering is that there are no jobs for new RN grads. Most LTC in my area are hiring LVNs ( Houston TX). So my question to you DONs/ADONs, how do you advise me to reach the Recruiters at LTC?? I have tried walk ins, calling and online. I just complete applications and never get called back. I follow up after a few days and never get connected to the Nurse Manager. I am only told that if I qualify that they will contact me. I will appreciate your earnest advise. How can I reach DONs and the people that are running the nursing homes. Please help!!!
  7. Hello Texas Nurses~ Lets help each other out. Do you know an organization that is hiring new grads RN or LVN with little or no experience. The organizations can be a hospital, hospice, home care, SNF, clinic etc. Please post it and lets help each other get jobs and grow. Thanks
  8. Hello Nurses~ I am a new grad and just passed my Nclex. I am now actively looking for a job and would like to hear what worked for you. I have been to 2 interviews. The last one seems very promising and I am waiting for them to contact me . ( I plan on calling them tomorrow if I don't hear from them). I just went door to door to 3 SNF in my area and completed applications. I will contact them after 2 days and inquire on the status. I am applying online everyday but I hardly get calls from those online applications. So please advise me on what next to do. What has worked for you?? Where did you find your first RN job? Thanks for your help and advise.
  9. Nurse Jackie, have you tried hospice?? Have you tried going to job fairs , or going door to door to SNF. Private duty??. I just graduated and passed my boards and havejust actively began job hunting. I printed my resumes and have been going to SNF and doing on site application. I just attended a job fair that seems promising. I have a second interview for Monday. I am being optimistic. I wish you the best.
  10. Contact the place you had an offer and tell them that you have passed
  11. Monthly wine and cheese/crackers/fruits day. Have an italian setting with music playing in the background. Old country music and movie, again create that old school ambiance.
  12. For pharmacology, know how each medication class works that way you will understand the potential side effects. Group them if possible like "lol" are betablockers etc. Use saunders to test your pharm knowledge. Push yourself for 2 to 3 weeks and you will be ready.
  13. Do at least 150 questions per day. Read up on all rationales. Buy the PDA book and do the first 18 chapters know how to prioritize patients. Use saunders for content. For questions, I used saunders and kaplan. Learn test taking strategies. Learn your EKG. I used Ekg for dummies but it was required for my school. Be disciplined and study consistently for 2 to 3 weeks (6hrs per day). If you put your all into it, you will pass. All the best.
  14. I had that same fear. I took mine last Thursday. Got the good pop up. I did it over one million times on different computers. My board took forever to update my status. I paid for the quick results on Monday and I passed. My BON just listed me as an RN this morning. As a former doubter, I truly believe it is accurate. Congrats. Now go get a job!!
