Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Can't see how you can get registration as a nurse if not thru AHPRAHello,I'm still going to apply for AHPRA after I secure my documents.Any feedback on which area I should apply that may not take too long for an eligibility?I will also apply for UNISA at the same time since they do not require AHPRA.

Hello everyone,
I am quite concerned in my situation here. Recently, I met some students doing the BP here in Melbourne. I am an immigrant here in australia but graduated year 2010 and currently working as a PCA in a nursing home. I have zero experience still at the moment. I took IELTS twice but failed my writing test miserably. One of my friends who attended the IDP seminar last may 20 2012, told me that due to the changing processing of things with AHPRA, there are 2 pathways to get here. The first pathways is that they require overseas nurses planning to go here in australia to have at least 2 years working experience as a staff nurse (hospital setting) with the BP pathway. But for those who have zero experience or less than 2 years, they have to re-study the bachelor of nursing here in australia. But instead of 3 years, it can go down to a year because of recognition of prior learning. Anyhow, I am really troubled as I do not know which advise to take. I am still planning to take a chance for my IELTS just in case I get the band score needed. Advice pls.
You are already an immigrant. Take the long route, 're-study'. You said you have zero experience as an RN, even if you pass your IELTS you might find it difficult to get a BP provider as most ask for 3 months experience as per posts here. Working as a Carer and studying nursing at the same time is not uncommon here in Australia.
