Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

like how much is sufficient?
If you are applying for a student visa,
a. you should have the tuition fee amount (if you have paid in full, this will be deducted from the required show money and/or if you still have any remaining balance to pay the school, this will be added to the required show money)
b. living expenses. the last time i applied for a student visa, i think the required money for a whole year's living expenses is $18,000 (not so sure anymore, but this minimum required amount goes up every year). so if your course is for 4 months, the computation will be (18,000/12 months) x 4 months = $6000
so let's say your tuition is 10,000 but you already paid 50%, you still have $5,000 balance plus $6,000 for living expenses. that's a total of $11,000. again, if you have paid your tuition in full before lodging your student visa, the tuition fee will be deducted from the required show money.
one important thing to remember when applying for the student visa is that the money should be in your account (or you sponsor's account) for 3 months. that means, in the past 3 months, the lowest balance that should be seen in the account is $11,000. They are looking for the lowest balance that you have, not the highest.
as for the 456 visa, I have no idea how they compute for the required money. anyway, I hope my reply helps.
hi ey-em, where can I secure a affidavit of support? I mean, does it need to be from an attorney or from the bank? or I'll just let my parents make one? does this have a certain format? I hope you don't mind my questions, I'm just not familiar with this. TIA.. :)
You could get an affidavit of support from an attorney. basically, it should be stated in the affidavit that you sponsor (your relationship with the sponsor should also be stated i.e. parents, brother, aunt, uncle, etc) has sufficient funds to support you (and that you have access to these funds) for all the necessary expenses for your entire stay in Australia. When I had my affidavit done, we needed to present the bank statements to the attorney as proof.
But if you are applying for a student visa, there is a specific form (i think they call it student visa support statement - i suggest you search for it in the immigration website) that you need to fill up. When i renewed my student visa, I just had my parents fill out that form. i didn't need to have it notarized. please note that I was in Oz at that time. But if you are going to use that form and submit it from the Philippines, i suggest you have it notarized.
