New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

If you are already registered, you shouldn't have to take IELTS again. You can not apply new rules to old registrants. As you said there were those who got through. India is part of the Commonweatlh, maybe that's why. Congratulations colleague!

I have to disagree, at anytime a nurses Practise is brought to the attention of AHPRA they must investigate and de register, or send for assessment or request an English test to a nurse at anytime. It's the reason we have a board to keep patient safety paramount, though letting hundreds of nurses register with poor English skills makes you wonder.

India being part of the commonwealth is not why Indian nurses got away with poor English skills and some from other esl counties.

They have a large recruiter that saw a loophole and very actively Recruited as there were no limiting any applicants for Australian registration at that time...just finding the money for bp

A bit of miscommunication here I think. The enquiry was ' will ALL foreign trained registered nurses already registered with AHPRA be required to take IELTS?' as per Joiemike. My response was it would be highly unlikely. It will be a logistical nightmare. Where would they even start? Should they start with the inception of AHPRA? Should they start when there were individual boards in each state? IELTS was already a requirement in some states and not in SA, they only had that requirement added on June of 2009.

I agree that a nurse's practice can be scrutinized by AHPRA, the same is true with any board of nursing anywhere but there would have to be a person who would report the nurse in question and is treated on a case by case basis. This scenario can not be used for ALL foreign trained nurses already registered with AHPRA.

hi there ive been following the forum statements here for several days and im overwhelmed to be seeing people with variety of ideas and those who are possessing a big and kind heart to share :))

i just got my cert from my secondary school here in the phils and confidently gave me the said document stating that all subjects were taught and assessed in english..luckily i graduated from an exclusive school and my registration officer just told me that the first cert that i submitted must be revised and that my years of being a student should also be highlighted.

i learned that ahpra already publicized a framework for a revision on registration process dated sept19 however i was able to submit my application in qld august 19 when i was still staying there and studying.my registration officer is friendly to answer all my enquiries online... i also tried sitting on the ielts but i was unlucky and failed in writing. so im still having this determination to sit again and ace the ielts.. im just really hoping that i would be able to receive a good result, :)

how long will it take for my application to be assessed by aphra? let's say i already provide all the necessary requirements except IELTS? If i pass it today, how long will it take for them to check out my application. i'm a bit concerned about the 30 to 60 day deadline to complete the requirements. I plan to re-take the exam around late feb or early march.

I think what I was also trying explain as well, is in the new english requirements by AHPRA September 19, they did indicate that they can require the Ielts test at any time, so what Joiemike was implying (I think) that, when a nurse without IELTS and completed BP program applies for registration,AHPRA can request the test before giving the registration.

The other thing these nurses who scrape through the BP must realise is: how will they perform in an interview? How are they going to get the work visa without the english tests? not a good advert for their nationality. 'What were they thinking about their 'duty of care'

Hello guys,

Does anyone here know the public holiday on December especially during weekdays?

I know i am a bit off topic but i really wanted to know so badly so i could be able to assess if my visa application plus my med exam would be possibly done before jan 2, 2012.

Your information will be greatly appreciated :heartbeat:bow::heartbeat:bow:

Thanks a lot :santa:

Monday and Tuesday 27 and 28 and January 2. That is in the country, thats the official must be paid and given off days.

It is also an Australian tradition to close public services or have a very, very limited service between Christmas and New Year and work shorten day before so the 23rd do not count on them being open to the death knock. This only what often happens, in country.

Good luck hope you get it on time.

Don't think they start assessment until all the documents have been supplied.Especially something as important as IELTS. Its not like not having enough aged care hours or this or that not supplied. IELTS is one of the documents they ask for in the application you must state if you must have completed this requirement or not. If not then you are not application standard.

Personally if I was as assessment officer I would kick the application to the back of the non compliant pile.

hello everyone, i just wanted to know how much money should I have in the bank in order to meet the financial requirement in applying for a 456 business visa? can someone enlighten me about this please? thanks in advance :)
