New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

does ETEA require nursing experience for one to be able to enroll?

Nope.

Nope.

thanks! now i have to work on my ielts to get all 7, haha!

Hi all..i'm a volunteer nurse for more than a year now...i now have the certificate of my working-slash-volunteer experience and it's stated there that i'm a volunteer registered nurse (of course ;) )...i'm just wondering if AHPRA is okay with that, and if the bridging schools/programs are okay with that too so i can be qualified to enroll...please help me! thanks :)

Specializes in Medical Surgical Ward.

Hi faithmartel, this was mentioned on the previous post. AHPRA will accept at least three months volunteer/work experience but BP providers has different qualifications in terms of experience and most of them requires 2 years volunteer/work experience. As for me, better gain more experience first as competition is higher in finding jobs in OZ.

just my 2 cents.

@mhai

I was approved for a tourist visa for 8 months with multiple entry. Lucky for us because they give special consideration to overseas nursing students Btw, are you in for the etea sept. intake?

Hi arreyn how much is the fee for tourist visa? And how many weeks is the processing time? Thanks

Specializes in L & D.

By the way everyone .. does the BP program's AHPRA Accreditation Expiration Date matter?

And will AHPRA allow BP Providers not listed in their Accreditation Link?

Hi arreyn!

I'm just wondering how much does the tourist visa 676 cost? I thought we can only apply for the 456 visa. Glad to know that there's another option while we're waiting for employment in AU:)

$110 aud

Murdoch University for the 1 year Nursing Conversion Course do not require IELTS, some institutions don't even require an eligibility letter from AHPRA to do a conversion course, but they would let you know that after the course it is your responsibility to supply AHPRA with the needed requirements for your registration. So please be aware that when you later apply for your registration you will still be required the IELTS, as far as I know and taking the IELTS while in the Philippines (in my opinion) would be a better option.

I think its best if you look directly at the DIAC website for the detailed elements needed for the Point System. If you plan to apply for Skilled Migration you have to have your registration with AHPRA first then have ANMAC assess you then apply for Skilled Migration.

Each institution have a different design/pathway to gain the nursing registration. Some would offer a Bridging Program, some a Conversion Course and in the case of CON its an Assessment of Competence Program.

thanks miks! but am not going for conversion course its BP am taking and im currently looking for a cheaper institution and not asking for ielts. :)

I have no idea how you guys that do not come from exempt countries getting approval from Ahpra unless you have worked as a nurse in an English speaking country for at least 3 months then you can have exemption from IELTS I was told by officer at ahpra.

If not then ahpra needs to lift their game when employing assessment officers.

I will never be put in a position again were ien nurses did not understand orders in an emergency situation and you guessed it one came from India and the other from the Phillipines where they thought they spoke great English because they spoke it at secondary school and at nursing school. Thing is you do use another language in clinical setting and no way can there be a set standard of the English being taught, by Australian professional Boards.

The bottom line is and thank goodness for Diac you cannot get permission to work in Australia without being tested on your standard of English, whether a BP school takes the risk a student in clinical Practise without an English test and may end up in a clinical negligence case with or without Ahpra approval, and you get your registration you still cannot work legally.

HI Ising...I might try for AAON TOO. will be sending copies via email tomorrow. how do you know which visa they require? La trobe requires Student visa, how about AAON? when did you do your medicals, before or after Visa? this is quite confusing for me really. hope to hear from you soon. and good luck !:D

La Trobe requires student visa? where did you get that info? a friend of mine had her BP at La Trobe on a business visa. that was 2 years ago though.
