Hi, I just started my lpn clinicals 2 wks ago. I thought it might be cool for all of us new nursing students to be able to share our experiences and maybe lean on eachother in this tough year to come.

I'll start- I'm Ashley, married and have 2 children (2.5yrs old and 7 months) and I am not working right now, thank God. Not sure I could handle it if I were, lol. I'm only in week 3 and I'm already behind in my reading. I don't know how it's possible to get all the reading done, it's very overwhelming. My Nursing fundamentals class text is unbelievable, the chapters are like 80pages each, with very small font, and we have to read at least 4 chapters each week, in addition to the other classes. I've been making myself study for at least 3 hrs every night. Hopefully that will be enough, I'm trying, but wow it's a lot of reading. I bought myself a recorder this last week to hopefully help drill the lectures into my head. And I aced my 1st quiz today in pharmacology. Yay! Anybody else? How's your first couple weeks going? Let's get to know eachother, we need all the extra support we can get :)

It's been almost 2 weeks and we've had 2 big tests and one quiz. I did better than I thought on my science test so that put me in a good mood.We just started doing labs in fundamentals and we were just going over bedmaking ROM, handwashing, sterile techs ect, you know the basics. Next week we have 3 big test and 2 open book quiz/test. So yeah it's really fast paced, we do 2 chapters a day in fun and science so far and believe me when I tell you those chapters a VERY long. You just gotta keep up and study. So far it's going as good as it can be expected, though I wish I got a lot more sleep!

WHOA! your chapters are that long? Ours is long but not like that!

Ashley - 2 kids, 2.5 yr sand 7 mos? now that sounds like a challenge!

Hi! I just started school Tuesday! I had been waiting all summer for school to begin and now I wish I had a couple more weeks to prepare, lol! Anyway, my name is Holly. I am 33 and married. I have 6 kids... 12, 9, 8, 6, 4 and my youngest will be 1 this month. I know this is going to be a difficult year but I am just going to pray that it passes quickly!!

OMG! 6 kids? you are tougher than me! TFS...

wow Holly, you have 6 kids, now that's a full time job right there. I have 2 and I'm busy with just them, lol. Good luck with school!

So I failed my 1st test in fundamentals :( But so did the rest of the class so I don't feel too terrible about it- I did until I learned the class ave was 70 and about everyone I talked to did even worse than I did. Hopefully that little light switch that makes you start thinking critically like a nurse flips on before the next one next week. I also have my 1st pharm exam on thursday. I'm really not digging pharmacology either, it's just really confusing to me so far. How are you guys doing so far???

It definitely is, but we're all adjusting well and my dh is really helpful and my mom also sits for us when I'm in class if my dh is working, so we're really lucky. I was feeling really guilty at first about missing out on so much with my new baby, but then I got to thinking that it's better to get it done and over with now so that I can enjoy the rest of his life and he'll actually remember me being there and he'll think I've always been a nurse, lol.

Wishing all of you the very best of luck for your nursing programs! It is a challenge, but, it can be done. I suggest that you all speak to your families and friends, telling them that this will be a rough year, that you may need a bit of time to yourselves, maybe delegate some chores to the older children and even the spouses, if possible.

I think it is nice that you all are reaching out to each other for on line support!

Hey, I was busy with two, as well.... It's all relative! lol. Thank you!!! We had a three week Adult Learning Seminar in September. My actual nursing program starts on Monday!! I am excited and nervous. I have been letting my family know that the next year is going to be a rough one!!! Hopefully they will understand.

That sucks but at least it wasn't just you! I agree about the critical thinking... I hope I get it fast. I actually bought two books about preparing for nursing school and how to do well on tests that require critical thinking. I am trying to get them read before school starts, lol!!! I will let you know it they are of any help. Let me know if you want the names of them... Best of luck on your upcoming tests!!!! Once I actually start I will let you know how it is going.

Hello everyone, I'm Valarie and I just started my program on Sept. 30th. I'm 28, I don't have any children but I work nights fulltime and hoping that I can continue to work and do well in my classes. I'm so excited that I found this site, and I can hear other students experiences. Classes are going great for now but we have just been getting alot of paper work and stories from the professors on what to expect. Good luck everyone and I hope to receive and share experience with you all.

I am 27, 2 daughters one 7 the other is 2. I dont' actually start my program until October 26th but I am getting really anxious about starting. I will be doing the LPN evening course that will take 21 months. I wish I could do the one year day program but this was not an option for me financially as I have to work full time. Then I will do the LPN to ADN bridge.

Well, I look forward to hearing about everyone's progress!:nurse:
