You can download a free exam content guide from the EC publications page. It contains an outline of what's on the exam -- you should use that to guide your studies. I found SG101 to be pretty on target as well. Good luck!
Edited to add: I also highly recommend the EC practice exams. Great study tool!
I just downloaded my SG101 for Transitions. I skimmed through it, and I haven't had time to really read it, but I can say it's perfect! Thanks to everyone for recommending it. This is the way I like to study. I have read posts on here about using SG101 and Saunders to study. Another question, though...did everyone purchase the books that Excelsior suggests or did you just use these 2 things? I'll let you all know how I do on my Transitions Exam!
I have taken 8-10 cleps and dsst exams since February. I went from having 4 credits to 60 from Feb-May on just testing out. For each test I studied for 2 weeks, some much less. For my microbiology, I studied on and off for 3 weeks and passed with a B. I plan on studying about 2 weeks for each of the nursing exams. But my work schedule is a little different than others as I only work 2-3 days a week. I understand some tests are going to require more study but I'm hoping I can play off my recent LPN education which was very intensive. I graduated from LPN school in July 2010 and have been working in LTC since then, so I am hoping the knowledge is still in there somewhere.I know CLep/Dsst's are much easier than the nursing exams but at least with the nursing exams, I have a interest in them and can relate to it. Sociology and Psychology were horrible to study for because I had no interest in it and I passed both of those with a little study. Microbiology was fun and interesting and I made a B.
Where did you take your Micro and was there a lab????? I want to do Micro and A&P through excelsior or straighterline but I'm afraid they won't transfer when I'm
Ready to apply for a NP program!!!!
Question about straighterline. Im doing the excelsior RN and so far I have developmental psych, sociology (clep), A&P, and microbiology. What courses can I do throught straighterline? If I do the AAS can I pretty much pick what I want? I know that I need humanities and english comp. Any receomendations?

Hi there!
I started with excelsior in october of 2009. I have finished all of the prerequisites and am taking my first nursing exam on Friday. Life is crazy, I just recently had my second baby boy, therefore it has taken me longer than expected to finish this whole thing. I spend on average about 1 month going through the material before I test. I have found on some courses, the tests ask for more information than what is in the modules. For example, world religions. I am looking for someone who has ideas about how to study for clinicals. I know on the job training is great but I am looking for something maybe a little more structured. any ideas? Thanks!
