  1. Lady in Scrubs....I've applied to ISU....I've got a question though..you put that you can take your General Education requirements at your local college. I also know that ISU has a partnership with Ivy Tech. Are you able to take your prerequisites through them online? I also know that ISU accepts Straighterline courses, too....Thanks!
  2. Thank you Lady in Scrubs for answering a lot of my questions. I have already done online classes with DeVry University, and I liked the way their classes were structured because there was actually an instructor who pushed you to do things, with Excelsior, you don't get that..and that's part of the reason I was looking into this program. As far as money, I know all about student loans. I already have them from Nursing School/DeVry..but with Excelsior, they're not eligible for anything besides private student loans, which have been difficult to get. I know it's cheaper, but the more I think about it, if I'm going to do it, I might as well get my BSN. I did apply for admission to ISU, I'll have to see what they say!
  3. Hi all, I was reading this thread and I am currently enrolled with Excelsior college to get my RN degree, but I'm having a hard time making myself study. :) I was wondering with the ISU program if its like Excelsior where you are to study on your own then go take your tests or if they are actual classes that you have to keep up with. I"ve done the online class thing in the past and did very well with it. I just need the motivation to keep me going. Another question I have is, is this eligible for financial aid? I'm paying out of pocket right now for Excelsior and I can barely afford it. I'd appreciate any information! Thanks!
  4. Good Luck!!!! :anpom:
  5. Same here. I keep trying to study, but jeeze....I'm going to get the practice test next week and take it and see what I need to study. I scheduled my exam for July 21st...I need to get moving, but I start reading it and I find my mind wandering.....Good luck everyone!
  6. Congrats!!!
  7. I got a letter in the mail the other day. I agree, no increase in salaries, but an increase in everything else. And it really stinks when you're paying out of pocket!
  8. That's what I thought. I could see that from what I was looking at on Ebay and that is why I was a little wary on purchasing her study guides. I did see that SG101 does update theirs often, which is good. Thanks!
  9. Thank you! I'm already using Study Group 101's Notes, and I've heard about Lisa Arends and have looked her up on Ebay. I did notice for her stuff though, it seemed like some of it was from 2008. I was wondering if it was up to date enough to use. I'm going to have to do the practice exam. I scheduled my first exam for next Friday!!!! I've also seen on here about using books that are a previous edition. I'm going to go that route too. I got all of the books that Excelsior recommends from BookRenter.com for the Transitions exams, and I haven't opened a single one of them since I bought Study Group 101's notes. Thanks again. I appreciate the input!!!
  10. *BUMP* I still need a little advice, so I'm bumping this one back to the top!
  11. Honestly, I know it stinks because the prices are going up, especially for those who are paying out of pocket for the program, but prior to me enrolling in Excelsior, I was attending DeVry University and it cost me 3500.00 (NO KIDDING) for one class. That is part of the reason I'm here. But, I did enroll in my first exam, and I'm doing my enrollment fee on a payment plan. At least I Got a break on that!! Excelsior's prices are SO reasonable compared to other schools. I just wish they took federal financial aid for the AS in Nursing. It would make my life a lot easier!!!!
  12. I have another question that goes along with this topic....what books to I ABSOLUTELY have to have to do my nursing courses? I'm paying out of pocket for everything and I am using Study Guide 101 to study for my Transitions exam and I love their format, but I know along the way I"m going to need books for something. I'm trying to do this without spending a lot of extra money. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!! :)
  13. I'm going to have to jump on this, too, in case they quit accepting it. Thanks for the info, everyone!
  14. I've been an LPN for almost 12 years with 5 years experience in a hospital setting and now I work in LTC. Staff nurse mostly, but I do Infection Control Tracking and I'm Charge Nurse sometimes, too. Currently I'm enrolled with Excelsior College trying to obtain my RN degree. I'm studying for my first exam....Good luck to everyone!
  15. I just downloaded my SG101 for Transitions. I skimmed through it, and I haven't had time to really read it, but I can say it's perfect! Thanks to everyone for recommending it. This is the way I like to study. I have read posts on here about using SG101 and Saunders to study. Another question, though...did everyone purchase the books that Excelsior suggests or did you just use these 2 things? I'll let you all know how I do on my Transitions Exam!
