OnFriday, October 18th, 2014. President Obama has appointed an Ebola czar by the name of Ron Klain. This individual has NO MEDICAL EXPERIENCE. However, he is a Washington insider (for whatever that means). Why could the President not bother to look for a nurse or doctor with management experience. I know it is a little to soon to be this judgmental, but we are fighting for our lives.

There are nurse and those with public health degrees. He did not bother to look in that direction.

No, he didn't, because there are already a kazillion physicians, nurses, and other public health professionals involved. He was looking for an administrator/manager/coordinator with expertise in getting things done within bureaucracies.

Specializes in MICU, SICU, CICU.

If only it were as simple as just providing someone who could provide medical management of ebola hemorrhagic virus.

The logistics and the legalities and most of all the expense of containing this disease are going to require a concerted effort by every facet of federal state and local government.

Specializes in hospice.

So has Klain attended any meetings yet?

There are PLENTY of MD, RN, MPH that know d.c. Some of them where former politicians. The president did not bother to look. It is imperative to have someone with a medical background especially in infectious health. This a speciality area in medicine. Therefore, how is an individual with no medial experience going understand what is REALLY going on and what type of questions to ask. It is not enough to be "AN INSIDER". We need and deserve more as a medical community we MUST speak up. We need to cure and eradicate Ebola. We need someone who understands medicine. It is not good enough to just bring someone to the table.

please clarify this comment?

This is why we need to speak up.

I believe an excellent interim czar (or interim head of CDC if Tom Frieden steps down) or even an advisor to the czar would be Dr Brantly. He is still getting his strength back though I am sure. He would be such a great resource on this...knowing ebola, treating it, surviving it...

Dr Brantly already is a resource for the President on this horrific disease..

President Obama met with Dr Brantly and his wife in the Oval Office on 9/16/2014.

Dr Brantly also spoke to the House that week about conditions in Liberia, which is a war torn country, in hopes of securing help for these people also dealing with an epidemic of 4800 reported cases and 2500 deaths from Ebola hemorrhagic virus.

President Obama has been working with the governments of Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone since the start of the Zaire strand outbreak. The videos are on whitehouse.gov. and youtube and every other form of mainstream media such as NPR, PBS and BBC America and NBC.

I highly recommend the in depth one half hour uninterrupted programmming that is available on BBC America, CNBC (Canada) NPR and PBS.

These sources provide facts, not opinions and dumbed down inflammatory statements whose only purpose is to increase ratings and generate ad revenue.

Ebola Czar Ron Klain to Meet White House Teams on His First Day, Wednesday 10/22/14

Former White House adviser Ron Klain will meet with President Barack Obama and top aides in the Oval Office on Wednesday, his first day as the new "Ebola czar." Klain, who is Vice President Joe Biden's former chief of staff and a veteran political operative, also has meetings scheduled with various White House teams leading the government's response to Ebola at home and in West Africa.

Obama named Klain to the post last Friday. He's already been spotted at the White House chatting with senior Obama advisers he'll be working with in his new role coordinating the array of federal agencies dealing with the Ebola crisis.

Yes, it would be nice if we had a Surgeon General these days, but that position requires congressional approval and the Republicans are unwilling to approve anyone (as part of their ongoing campaign to thwart Obama at every turn).

Pres. Obama's nominee for Surgeon General is Vivek Murthy. He is a surgeon at Brigham and Womens Hospital, educated at Harvard and Yale and and earned an MPH. His appointment has been blocked by the Senate because he is in favor of a ban on automatic assault weapons.
