Hi,

I have never does this before, except for the school training at a nursing home for 7 - 4 hr days , 3 days does not seem like enough to get the pattern of how things work. I want to learn how to do the right and not be a pest and ask questions everytime I turn around. I will be starting in the next week.

Any suggestions?

I got 8 days of training at my ALF job, only because there are 4 different sections in the building, so I got 2 days in each section..I think I got better training that way. I got 3 days of training at my LTC job & I did not feel like I was prepared at all. One of the many reasons why I'm quitting lol. Anyways maybe you could talk to the DON/RSD to ask if you can get more training. Good luck

Just ask for more after the 3 days if you feel you need it.

Assisted living is usually pretty easy so 3 days may be enough.

Good luck and congrats on the new job!:)

my assisted living training was 5 days i believe. 2 days in assisted living, and 3 days on the memory care unit.

depending on what kind of ALF you're working at, it should be pretty easy. the hardest thing for me was meal time. this also depends on what shift you're working. i would hate my life if i work the morning, since you have to get every up & ready for breakfast and lunch. it just got so chaotic where i worked. we each had 25 residents, and maybe 2-3 who didn't want to come downstairs to eat. then we had to serve everyone, and everyone had a choice of the meal & drink. none of these things were written down, you were expected to memorize what everyone would want. needless to say, i chose to work on the memory care side more often than not. we had 10 residents each, and the day typically involved changing, showers, breaking up fights, and helping the feeders. i really enjoyed it so much more than working on the assisted side--and yes, some of that had to do with the attitudes. but hey, i'd have an attitude too, if i paid $5000 a month to live somewhere. :yeah:

my point--just relax :) as long as you care about your work, your residents, you'll be fine. :redbeathe

I also had a three-day training for my very first job as a brand new CNA in a LTC facility. I didn't feel that I was prepared to take care of 13-14 patients on my own, but I guess I have no choice but getting used to it. My debut is coming up in a couple of days.

assisted living is generally easy compared to ltc and others, 3 days may be more than enough.

Plus there is only so much you can learn from running about watching someone work. You just need to get to it, you'll catch on much faster. Thats when I learned the most! :)

Just got a caregiver job at assisted living as a caregiver. I am getting 2 days training, just finished day one. I hope you guys are right that this is enough training.
