Hi! Hopefully others have this same issue! I am graduating from a second degree nursing program in one month and have had no luck getting a job in Boston. I've heard how tough Boston is, but I am determined to move up there and am wondering if anyone knows about new grad spots at other times of the year (as most, if not all, are filled right now)...I am willing to wait a few months after taking the NCLEX (in February) to start if need be, but I want to make sure hospitals do in fact have new nurses start throughout the year (I know many have set new grad programs). If anyone has thoughts I would really appreciate it! Thanks a lot~

I as well graduated from a 2nd degree BSN program. I have been in Boston since August, applied to over 15 hospitals and have had no luck!! The problem is multi-faceted, but mainly due to an economic decline forcing hospitals to cut back, and there being so many new graduates in the area (secondary to many nursing schools). I have recently heard that many hospitals won't be hiring again until June. So if you are willing to wait until then, you may be in OK shape. You may have better luck than I, but I wish I had the warning I am giving you. Cheers!

Hi! This question would be better served in the Mass. Nurses forum where more locals would read it. I'll move it there for you. Good luck!

Gtown and Samm, would you be willing to share with us which 2nd degree program you graduated from and how you liked it? I'm looking at several 2nd degree BSNs in the area and would love some feedback on area programs. Thanks!

Gtown, Boston is not a good place for new grads currently. Unless your mother is a nurse manager or CEO of a hospital, most hospitals are hiring with experience only. Yes, there are a few hospitals who have new grad programs a few times a year, however, the spots for these are very slim and are usually given away to techs, those who had their preceptorships at that hospital, etc. If you look around on this board you will see that many new grads in Boston are looking for jobs and have been since May and earlier. Most of my friends moved away to land a job. It is a new year so we are all hoping things will change. I think it is hard to say how many new grad spots there will be next summer, however, I can tell you to start applying and making phone calls now.

I would suggest to set you sites on a LTAC ( New England Sinai, Speulding, etc) or a SNF to start, job market is tight.
Also if you had a great clinical network with the nurse manager and see if there is an opening available, Good luck.
