Nevada NCLEX-RN Application - Fresh International Graduate

World Registration

Published

I went to Middle School and High School in California. I also had a one semester in College there. Eventually, I decided to move back to Philippines and finish my college. Obviously, I took up nursing.

I just graduated last April 2013 in the Philippines. I am a dual citizen - US and PHL. I've read and heard about the new law in Nevada wherein local license is required. Since I am a fresh a BSN graduate, I do not have a local license yet but I have no plan on taking the PNLE.

However, I still decided to apply in Nevada. I already started my CGFNS and planning to take TOEFL exam asap. I also passed my application papers then received my fingerprinting forms few days after.

My brother, a US citizen, took his NCLEX right after his graduation and passed it first time in California. As far as I remember it was during 2009 so he was lucky that he did not go to the strict and harder application process nowadays especially in California.

He suggested that I still should try in Nevada despite of the new law as do the same thing he did when he applied in California. Wherein, when the BON looks or/and asks for your license, the best way is to send them a letter explaining that you do not plan to work there (PHL) and you are a US citizen. By the way, I have two brothers who have done this and it worked.

The Nevada BON sent another letter to me saying that they are waiting for my CGFNS and TOEFL results. So far, I am going with the flow and plan to give it a shot.

Any suggestions?

Do you think that I'm doing the right thing or wasting my time and money as well? Feel free to comment. Thanks.

If you are a 2009 graduate you shouldn't have a problem even if you apply in CA where its a lot stricter. It mostly affects 2010 and up. I have a friend who is an 09 batch and he didn't take take the TOEFL but instead took the Pearson test of English Academy which accordingly is a lot easier than the former.

Actually, the concurrency regulations (in CA) affects those from the Phils from the 2004-2005, as there are several other posters who were borderline 2004/2005 and were found by the CA BRN to be declared having the same applicants as those from 2006 to 2013 resulting in their applications being declined to get their ATT unless they are able to comply with the re-taking of those certain courses within the 3 years of their initial application date.

That's really funny. I had a lot of acquaintances who were 2006-2011 graduates from the Philippines who were able to take the NCLEX for CA. My batchmates who did not have any cases after graduation and who applied in 2011 were able to take the NCLEX for California. I applied in 2012 where they changed their requirements that cases must be done in the same semester. CA BON is a lot of BS with their inconsistencies. They are freaking overrated

hi guys! does the BON nevada accepts IELTS result for the application of eligibility to take nclex exam?? i just took my toefl today and i really find it difficult because of the timed speaking section.. im wondering if the score required for ielts can be accepted.. pls help me out.. i cant start reviewing for my nclex coz im still trying to solve this english exam. what is the minimum score for the speaking section if ever??

I think on the requirements it is specified that they won't accept IELTS anymore. 26 is minimum requirement for TOEFL speaking test. You could try the Pearson Test of English Academy instead.

Yea, it was a matter of timing, depending on which side you were on in the scale at the time of application dates.

The stricter enforcement of the concurrency regulations (which is not a new requirement at all and in their written nursing act and within their policy since 1987) but was more implemented in Nov. 2011 (if one applied prior to that date, you were "safe").

Count your blessings you got the ATT back then and passed the NCLEX, as you'll read and find many who got their ATT by Nov. 2011 but failed the NCLEX, so learned upon their re-application to re-take the NCLEX were flatly denied and today, many are soon going to be facing with the harsh reality of their applications being abandoned as their 3 years to complete their files will expire.

Yes, there were some of those that applied in 2012, at the time when the CA BRN was still going thru its enforcement assessment and most likely, some did slip thru the cracks, but that's more likely not to happen nowadays accounting for their inconsistencies as you mentioned and was a subject back in 2012 of how some got thru by their friends, but they were denied. I'm sure the CA evaluators had some confusion as to what the rulings were at the time.

However, even the PNAA (local PH Nursing Assoc.) and their chapters have all agreed with the CA BRN enforcement policy, CLICK here to read that thread: https://allnurses.com/nurse-registration/position-statement-concurrency-901106.html

Don't forget that they are 13 other states that also have these same concurrency rules but for most, they are not yet enforcing them but can do so at any time. It's a privilege, not a right to be granted a license, much like a driver's license.

As I mentioned many a times, we can all "thank" the CHED, PRC and PNA for not keeping up with the old rule and regulations and figured these PH agencies were immune to the CA BRN policies. Btw, I'm a Pinay, also.

We were not granted an ATT when we applied in 2012 because of the concurreny issue that's why we moved and worked as RNs in Nevada instead. The CRC has been there for decades and it's only these past years that they enforced it so they can block foreign graduates from stealing jobs of local graduates as California RN New Grads have a 43% unemployment rate. It's like we are like treated as illegal mexican immigrants and they are the border patrol LOL. For me that move of the CA BON to be strict on requirements is an economical rather than a technical issue.

ATOM2013 how does your application for nevada goes thru? do you have your license now?

Hi there everybody! Good vibes.

I just want to share my experience and help other people, because I know how it feels to search everywhere around google and find information to answer all my questions.

I am a BSN graduate last March 2014.

A permanent resident (green card holder)

Did not take the Nursing Licensure Exam in the Philippines (because I will work here in US)

Of course, curriculum rejected by BON of California.

So, I moved to Nevada.

Heads up!

First thing I did was to clarify if Nevada BON requires local license from PI. Called them and told me that THEY DO NOT REQUIRE IT. (did that around October 2014)

Heads up again!

Steps that I did to complete my Nevada RN/LPN Exam Requirements

1. Apply to Nevada BON for RN/LPN exam, download the form and mail it to them

direct link: http://nevadanursingboard.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Instructions-for-RN-LPN-application-for-license-by-examination1.pdf

Kindly read everything.

2. At the same time, do your fingerprints ELECTRONICALLY, ASAP! If you fingerprint in Nevada, you may choose to have your fingerprints submitted via electronic transmission(livescan) instead of submitting a card (other very slow option/manual version). Electronic transmission is only available if you have your fingerprints ****captured in Nevada****. Just tell them to send it to Nevada State Board of Nursing and provide details

3. Avail a service from CGFNS which is CGFNS-CES Academic Report (this will just let them compare your nursing curriculum from PI to US, no exam)

-You will register

-pay 350$ (yes, it hurts to pay that much but you need it)

-download a form send it to your school (I downloaded the form, filled out info & attached my a picture of my signature, sent it via email to my bff, had my best friend on the PI print it and submit to the registrar and the school must know what to do)

-then the school will mail it back DIRECTLY to CGFNS (the school will let you pay for mailing costs of course)

-it took 2 months for them to finish and review everything and directly email it to Nevada BON (you have a choice not to wait for 2 mos, you can pay additional 250$ for an expedited service of 10days processing only)

Link: CGFNS International | Global Credibility | Credentials evaluation and professional development services that provide strategic value and direction to health care professionals worldwide.

4. While waiting for the CGFNS process, I took the toefl IBT exam. That was 185$. You must have a total score of 84 or higher and 26 on speaking section. TOEFL will release scores after 9-10 days from taking the exam then mail it directly to Nevada BON.

Already passed my TOEFL ibt months ago, you can buy a book from Amazon, made by the makers of the TOEFL exam itself. This one is very very very exact and helpful: Amazon.com: Official Guide to the TOEFL Test With CD-ROM, 4th Edition (Official Guide to the Toefl Ibt) (9780071766586): Educational Testing Service: Books ITS LIKE THE ACTUAL TEST!

So now, I checked the status of my CGFNS order and saw that they already sent my credentials report to Nevada BON (February 12, 2015)

I AM NOW HAVING HIGH HOPES THAT I WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THE RN EXAM RIGHT AWAY WITH NO NEED OF TAKING ADDITIONAL COURSES OR WHATSOEVER. I will update everyone on this thread on how long did I received a response now that I successfully finished the requirements and if they will allow me to take NCLEX without any other problems. God bless everyone!

Correction: I ordered CGFNS CES Professional Report, not academic.

Hi iamnurse! Can I get your email address? Thanks !

Hi Iamnurse. Do you have any updates yet about your application for NCLEX?

I just had my CGFNS-Ces done, the result has been mailed to NSBN.

Hello everybody!

Sorry I wasn't able to reply in few months because I started working as a CNA to pay some bills and review at the same time.

AND YES. THE NEVADA STATE BOARD GRANTED ME MY ATT *****FOR NCLEX-REGISTERED NURSES EXAM*****, meaning.. my curriculum got in and I will be taking the exam in few weeks!

Hello. I was wondering if you had your school fill up the Request for Validation of License/Registration/Diploma. I saw that you did not take your local exam in the philippines. Which papers did your school fill up that came from CGFNS? The only paper they will accept is the Request for Academic Records/Transcripts.

Do you think i can get your email? Your forum really helped me a lot and i just have a couple of questions. Thank you
