Nervous to start May1

Published

As the title implies.. I am feeling very nervous!

I was hoping current or past students could alleviate some of that by letting me know how the program worked for them. I have 45 CU to complete, hopefully within 12 mos. I don't feel I can contribute enough time to get it done in 6 months but I love reading about those who did! Any words of wisdom would be great! My husband is a great support but we are both anxious about what to expect with my being focused on school work. I work every weekend nights and stay home with my 3 kids during the week (one is in school). Thanks in advance!!

The classes are completely renamed, the capstone supposedly will be done differently and will be based on a field experience either in leadership or education rather than a research project. They also added the 'three p's' (patho, advanced physical assessment, pharmacology IIRC).

Thanks Featherz!! Yep the 3 P's is the biggest difference, and capstone will be different based on which major you chose.

Does anyone out there know if its worth the time and money to send for a transcript to dantes? I took ethics in America back when I was going to Excelsior for ASN. I was awarded 3 hours for the class but I don't know if I should send for transcript or not, will WGU count or give any credit for a dantes exam? The transcript cost $30.00 and takes some time to get. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

I'm not sure. Does the description from the class you took match the description WGU has? If not and the credit hours don't match up it might not be worth your time or money. Hope that helps a little.

Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement! For some reason my email didn't alert me that anyone had responded so I didn't know! what a nice surprise of support! I did join the FB page.. seems like a great support system there as well! I had my intake interview today...ready to go! Thanks again!

For all of you starting in May, how long did it take to get your transcript eval and find out how many CU's you needed to take? Did you get an email with the information or did you get the information from your enrollment counselor? I am ready to start, have my intake interview today, just curious about how long it will take to find out how many credits I need. Thanks everyone.

It took about two weeks for my transcript eval...and no one ever told me what I d have to take..I had to look at the BSN requirements and compare to what they accepted. Unfortunately my enrollment counselor was never very helpful ..however I heard such good reviews of the program I figured once I was done with enrolling I wouldn't have to speak to her again so I just dealt with it! (After a few upset emails back and forth;-) I do widh they'd do a better job of letting you know what you will take but fingers crosses my mentor will help me with that..I hear great things about the mentors!

Not sure how long it took but my enrollenment officer told me what I had to take. I would say 2 weeks.

It took about a week for my transcripts to get evaluated BUT it was after I asked my enrollment counselor. She took my RN license number over the phone and said she would forward it over to the transcript dept. I had it completed 3 days later. You will get an email with the subject line "transcript evaluation" and it will include an attached PDF file showing which courses meet the requirements. I still had to use the catalog to compare the rest of the courses to figure out my total credits needed. Good luck!

I started on 03/01 and it's been a smooth process. I would suggest printing the rubric and using as a reference for the required tasks

Received my transcript eval last evening. Surprised me since it was a Sunday. I need to complete 38 CU's. that is about what I was thinking. I am happy with that. Now I just have the long month wait. LOL

Is this how many CU you need for your BSN

Now the capstone has changed from a research study to being based on a field experience (for the MSN only) - and I am waiting to see what that entails. My work schedule may not permit another field experience so I'm still on the fence. :)

Interesting, I didn't know that! I am in the "old" program, didn't realize the new program no longer requires the IRB approval process/research study.

I can't decide which one I would prefer, honestly. I'm about 2 months away from working on my capstone prep, and have been throwing around some ideas, but not sure if the scope is too big for me to tackle in 6 months.

OTOH, I have a professional mentor at my facility who has an MSN and is currently the interim director of nursing who probably would have been very willing to let me do my field experience with her. That would have been a great networking opportunity.

OTOOH, having worked in research for 2 years, the idea of designing and implementing my own study (I'd love to get it published) is a thrilling prospect! But SO MUCH work involved with what I want to do!
