Hey, all...Just a little nervous today, as I'm supposed to start my "preceptorship/capstone" on a tele floor, being the nurse under the staff nurse....having to have the staff nurse pull my meds, chart under her name, learn how to do the job, etc......I'm just nervous about how I will be recieved....Am I just going to be in the way of the staff nurse...or will I have an awesome staff member that will ask me questions and help me figure out what's going on with patients?
Wish me luck....(and it's over by thursday....) Wheee!

Good luck! You will do fine. You wont be in the way. When I precepted, I loved having a student/new nurse to work with. Just remember...ask questions if you dont know something. Let us know how your first day is!

Senior preceptorship was so much fun! Hopefully, you will have a nurse that is really interested in letting you get organized and hone your skills. I think that most nurses want a student to have a good experience, and I am sure you will do fine. Let us know how it went.
Today was great.....learned about the actual process of nursing, how to chart, how to check orders, how to do a full assessment....etc....I felt like I was helpful, and asked a few questions...but I'm still feeling like I was just "there"....
What general tele questions should I ask? I felt like I understood why we were doing what we were doing...and I even got to see a bedside thoracentesis....took 1.5L off of a lung....
So, any advice on how to make the day not seem quite so long?
