Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Up till this point i have taken all of my classes online, i will be taking three at the school but they had no A&P classes opened except online. Why am i more nervous about A&P online than i am the rest of my classes. Can anyone tell me what to expect with A&P online, how can i get through this, Any advice i should have before starting the class on Monday? Obviously i know that taking online classes require more motivation and better study habits, what else can i do to make this easier on me?

Just make sure that the nursing school that you are applying to will accept an AP course online. ALOT of them won't, but some will. You really need to run this buy every nursing program that you plan on applying to.

I agree with the above poster. As for nervousness---I believe I would be nervous taking A&P online as well, doing the labs all alone in a non lab setting (my home) all by myself. Some courses are good to have group work/study to go along with, FOR ME anyways. But, you may not have that same nervousness!

Hi,

I completed A&P online last semester. Here are a few tips:

Above poster is correct - just check to make sure your school accepts online - highly likely they will.

You probably don't have labs to do at home.

Read the book well, take notes on the readings. Be very methodical in all your classwork, and DON'T GET BEHIND.

You can ask questions online - there is always a forum where students can talk to each other, or to the prof. You could even inquire about staring a study group, if you have the time or inclination.

The scariest part is the first time you take an online test. They're timed, obviously, and the prof. assumes that since everyone has access to the book during the test, then he/she will write the test as an 'open book' type test. (Don't make the mistake of thinking that you don't have to study as hard.)

It's a great subject, and I wish you well, and hope you love the class!! Sounds like you have a full load.

UH-OH, It never occured to me that some colleges wouldn't accept it. But it is through regions online(RODP) which is what all the colleges in tennessee use for some of their online classes, so hopefully it will be ok. I guess monday after classes i will have to speak with an advisor to make sure. Thanks.

Also the labs are online and they are on type of cd program. I also read the sylubus for the class and it says we will be required to buy and use some house hold items to do some labs portions.

Thanks for the info!!!

I took both A&P I and A&P II online this summer. I did very well. I agree with the above poster. You can not get behind. My instructor actually put on the syllabus that it is DEADLY TO GET BEHIND. My labs were also done by using a CD. I just went over and over and over the lab CD until it sunk in. We needed to know it all. I did my best to cover all the material we needed to know. Because, you never knew what was going to be on the test. My testing was done on-site at my university on a lap top and it was not open book.

My advice is to email the professor now or when your class starts. Ask for what he or she recommends for additional study aids that could help you succeed in this class. (Anatomy flash cards or Anatomy coloring books) I did that and my instructor actually deterred me from getting the Anatomy Coloring Books because he said all I will need to succeed in his class is in the text book and the lab CD's. By just taking the extra time and initiative to ask you may get tips on what could help you succeed and alleviate some of your fears. Good Luck!!

Don't ASSUME it will be ok...you can always call the registrar's office of ANY school you plan to attend in the future, and they will be more than happy to tell you if they accept that course or not.

It's too much work to take twice, and there is a big difference between taking A & P for just a science course in a BS program and for nursing school...many nursing programs specifically state that courses such as A & P, Chemistry, and even Microbiology, must have a live lab or they will not accept it.

I can't tell you how many posts I have read where people find out that a nursing school doesn't accept a certain course only when they apply to the program, which is 100% preventable.

Hi,

You probably don't have labs to do at home.

I will admit that I have never taken A&P online, but from what i have read here on this very website *and even below in posts* is that for some courses which the program requires you to have a lab--you DO have to do the lab at home, OR go to some school which allows you to do lab by proxy (some other instructor observing you). One person on this site said her available school site for the lab for her online class, was like an hour away or something. Another person had not noticed that her A&P did NOT have a lab, which is required.

Anyways, OP did read the syllabus and seems to know what to expect, so I do wish her the best. Seems like lots of folks on this very thread have good advice and experiences to share with you. I agree with the advice about not falling behind. Seems like you will do great, you are getting your game plan together.
