NELRP 2010

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am going to apply for NELRP for 2010. I am getting married in June '10. I am wondering if when I apply, will they look at my debt to income ratio or that of me and my husbands combined income once we are married, since we are getting married in the middle of the application process. If anyone knows I would love to know. My debt to income ratio by my self is 268%, but much less with my fiances income added. Right now I live with my parents and am struggling to pay my loans.

Thanks,

Sarah

Everyone,

I, too, checked my application and saw this. I just got off the phone with a very nice rep who logged into my online application, discussed this with his supervisor, and the response I obtained was that since my application was submitted on March 7, 2010, my application is 'fine' since the Nurse Faculty program was not available for applications in March, and I had applied to the NERLP. I was told to 'wait for the verification email for further instructions'. Hopefully, this is a good sign. When I asked if I would be receiving funding, I was told that 'that information is not available at this point' and that Sept. 30 was the cut-off date for verification emails.

Thanks for sharing this information with the group. The rep did share that they had been on the phone today with others who had noticed this, as well. Hopefully, we will all hear something soon. I am happy for everyone else who has received funding!!

I get the same exact Nurse Faculty designation when I log into the HRSA website. I've noticed it in the past and thought it was odd, but didn't give it much more thought. So I think it's more of just a website template issue and not an issue with actual applications.

That's good to hear gnovime....because you were funded:)

Like I said just something else for me to worry about.....glad this forum is here...really been a great help in noticing what may be going on in the sadistic heads of NELRP :)

OK....VIP at HRSA who I called and sent email to... called me back with a name of another person who is supposed to be able to ans this pressing question....imagine if I, little ol me, have discovered a computer glitch that has caused some type of serious metldown of the NELRP...thye should reward me with an AWARD LETTER:) anyhoo she allowed me to leave a message in her VM, gave me her call back #...and cced me on an email for her to address my concerns...I am glad I tried to get more info instead of "waiting a week or two" cause I may have commited sometype of cide......if I would have just sat and waited and something more may be going on.....I do work at a state university and I do have advanced education (post master's) so I could see how they could maybe assume I work as NF.... the saga continues...I will keep all posted.

OK the problem is actually no problem (not for you guys anyway)..... The computer glitch, is not a glitch they are reading the applications correctly.

My problem is that prior to any NELRP ever exisited I took classes in health care management, and those classes are deemed non-nursing, even though the schools were saying that nurses need to educated in health care business/finance, understand goverment funding/Medicare/Medicaid etc, etc. and unfortunatley for me I consolidated those loans. Like I said I did this BEFORE there was ever such a thing a NELRP, so I basically knocked myself out of the running even before I entered the race. But I did thank the lady who responeded to me for finally giving me a understanding of why I was feeling passed over year after year....Now I can move on....

So my advice to you to MAKE SURE you have NOT A ONE Non-Nursing course in your loans, if you do you are being deemed inelgible for the NELRP. Maybe you can get someone to break it down to you like I was able to finally get a straight answer on your particular situation. My loans for my Post Master's in Clinical Research are the only loans being considered for the NELRP (granted the graduate courses taken were appplicable for me to get into the school of nursing to complete Post Master's) but they don't amount to much because I went active duty and got GI Bill to pay the rest of my course work (cause I had just too much debt).... So if you have loans, make sure you DO NOT CONSOLIDATE any "non-nursing" classes or you will burn yourself from getting any of the loans forgiven. I did ask her to talk to the powers that be if they could reconsider the RN's who still work and function as RNs but have elected to further their understanding of health care business/public health/stats/IT/computers etc to get a pass on those classes that are directly related to functioning in this varied health care environment, and she said she would. I hope this helps enlighten some of those who may be wondering why in the heck you may be being passed over, when maybe you took a minor in say a "non-nursing" area say spanish or management, you may not have the debt:income ratio because your loans are not being considered.

Good luck to you all, and I will move on from getting depressing, yet true news:) I'm going to get the right Income Contignent plan, pay my loans and get them forgiven in 10 yrs by that new porgram that started a couple of years ago to help all students with all loans who work in non for profit/state/local/feeral governmental agencies. I guess if you do the math, with the taxes they are taking out, added to the the worry factor  I probably coming out the same:)

I'm out but I'm still a nurse:):nurse:
