NELRP 2010

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am going to apply for NELRP for 2010. I am getting married in June '10. I am wondering if when I apply, will they look at my debt to income ratio or that of me and my husbands combined income once we are married, since we are getting married in the middle of the application process. If anyone knows I would love to know. My debt to income ratio by my self is 268%, but much less with my fiances income added. Right now I live with my parents and am struggling to pay my loans.

Thanks,

Sarah

My wife applied for this for the first time this year. She has a debt to income of 140% and works at a Critical Access Hospital. I thought this put her in the first preference, but she has not received the e-mail and it appears others with lower debt to income ratios have. I am confused...it appears the preference doesn't mean anything. Is there anyone else that is in this situation? Did anyone get an award letter that did not get an e-mail or phone call a month prior to the award letter? We are a little bummed as it appears the ship is sailing without us when we had high hopes based on our situation and feedback from others.

Thanks for any feedback in advance!

Just thought I'd point those of you interested with multiple loan companies/interest rates to this Excel spreadsheet I just found, it helps you examine all of your different interest rates and how to apply those payments:

Debt Reduction Calculator

It's free for personal use and includes two spreadsheets, one for 10 creditors and one for 20. You have to pay for the one with 40 creditors, however (as I have 23 creditors), you can take loans from the same company and just combine the balances if they have the same interest rate and get the same effect. Click the option for Avalanche strategy, as that will focus on your highest interest loans which will make the biggest impact in the end. After you put in all the information, it has a tab where you can see a payment schedule sheet breaking down how much to pay for each loan each month.

I already made my payments from this NELRP deposit but will definitely use this for next month.

Thanks for the debt calculator:)

As far as how NELRP chooses applicants, I have no idea, this is my 4th or 5th time applying, early on they never identified what a DSH even was so I went and worked at a federal military hospital, no luck, and then a federal prison as a PHS officer, no luck, now I work at a DSH with debt ratio of over 200% still no luck, although at least for the past 2 years I have gotten the "you were eligible, but not selected" letter early Oct.

I wish they would give a little more insight on how folks are selected, some people are new grads, brand new jobs and they basically get their debt forgiven right of the beginning of their career, I attended school later in life, have been paying my loans long before there was ever a NELRP, and to get passed over each year is a bummer, I have made zero impact in my debt balance because of the interest rates. Very frustrating, but lat least if you work at "non for profit, or in governmental agencies and pay for 10 yrs at the new lower income contingent at least you will have a chance to see some headway with the balance being forgiven even at 10 years, because at the rate I'm going it will take 60 years to pay it off.

I just noticed something really bad on my application, the header reads NELRP-Faculty, I work at a state university, but I am not a faculty member, I work in reserach at a DSH. I called the HRSA rep and verified a clerical error has been made, my application uploaded late Feb and the NELRP-F was not even open then. I hope this error has not messed me up from getting funding. dang........:banghead:

You have to check and recheck every little detail, I don't know how long this header has been up there.......

I called HRSA and got a very nice CSR who stated yes indeed there appears to be an error, he would submit to the right person right away. Well of course I could not sit still and not try to make this get some real attention, so I emaild HRAS with my concerns. I then called again, just to make sure this issue was recorded in my file, another young sir stated yes the discrepency was noted and I would be contacted in a "week or two". OH heck no I want contact today, this eve. at the very lastest, I want to know if ny NELRP is being considered under the NELRP-NF program, cause if it is I WILL NEVER get funded because I am not a NF member, nor did I apply for or send in the documentaion for NF. I WANT NELRP-period. So I called a real person in the office, I googled contact and fax info for HRSA, see these folks are government employees and department head has to have a public phone number and email. I found the person over the NELRP-NF program, she was very nice, noticed the fear and terror in my voice that maybe my application has been misdirected, she agreed to allow me to email her, with the proof and promised she would get back to me with a clarification.

...................Will keep you posted........................:bowingpur I hope this is something that can be fixed or has not messed up my chances for this program.......

Well CSR from HRSA called, she was very polite and stated that basically the online application for NELRP was mergred into the newly developed NELRP-NF program and that my application is being considered by the right program. She said that the program was not intended to be logged on again....Does anyone else see NELRP-Nurse Faculty on their log on...?????

I will just have to wait and see........

I checked my application today and mine also says nursing faculty. I called HRSA and they said a work order would be placed. I am also very concerned that I may not have even been looked at because of this mistake. The call center could not give me any explanation as to why this happened.
