I am currently in Oklahoma where I have lived my entire life. My husband is getting out of the military in May and I finish my LPN school in July. I will take the NCLEX here and I know I will have to get it transferred to a Florida license also. What things do I need to be aware of before moving to Florida? Are there any good web sites with information for me just starting out? I notice a lot of hospitals want experienced individuals which I will be fresh out of school, is this going to be a major obsticle to overcome? I would just like some info so I can start preparing myself for this.... any info would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I was born and raised in Miami, I love it here. I am trying to figure out why you seem afraid to move to Florida. What do you have to be aware of? I suggest using sun screen. If you have specific questions I will gladly help. I just do not know what you are asking or why.

Not really scared of moving to florida. My husband just left on the 27th after being home for 2 weeks on emergency leave and we went to Orlando for his moms surgery. There's soooo much stuff there to do. The thing Im mainly concerned with is beginning a new career in a new city and not knowing all the regulations florida has for an lpn. Im concerned with possibly not being able to be hired on because of lack of experience and fresh out of an lpn vocational program. Do you have any idea of the pay scale or where I can go to find any of this information out???

There is a nursing shortage. Contact the florida Board of Nursing. Get a copy of the Florida Nurse Practice Act for LPNs.

Practicing Nursing here is just like any other state. We don't eat our young here, we foster growth in newly graduated nurses.

I think you are looking for a problem that just is not there.

Hubby and I were seriously considering a move to FLA after he and I finished the LPN program. We were both thinking of doing the RN there. One thing I've found in my research is that it seems to take a while before you can get your license transferred so you will need to start on that asap. From some of the examples I've heard it can take up to three months. I would just suggest you do all the research you can online. Also there is a forum here on allnurses for Florida nurses and I've gotten a lot of my questions answered there so you may want to take a look at that too.

Hope this helps!
