You need an attorney to protect yourself, your assets and your reputation. Do you have professional Liability Insurance? If so, call them now! If you do not, contact a nurse attorney experienced with BoN issues. It's not cheap but what are your license, your reputation and assets worth? The American Association of Nurse Attorneys has a lawyer referral service on their website. http://www.taana.org
Look up your state bar association and call them. Say you need a referral for lawyers who have experience defending nurses against neglect/abuse complaints and actions against their licenses by the BON.
If APS is involved, there could be criminal charges. If they are notifying the BON your license could be under threat. A lawyer can help you with both.
You may not be able to contest your firing, but you certainly can hire an advocate to protect your interests during whatever proceedings may be coming.
Good luck.
How would I benefit from having a lawyer? My former employer told me I could not contest or fight this. How do I find a lawyer?
Youve been fired, the BON is going to be notified, and you don't think you need a lawyer? Call your local Bar Association m& ask for a referral. Often you can get a very low cost consultation to initially discuss your case, and decide where to go from there.
Also, file for unemployment.
Do you have malpractice insurance? If you do call them immediately. You need to lawyer to go to the BON with you. They are not your friend. You need a lawyer to protect your license....your job is a done deal. Apply for unemployment. How would I benefit from having a lawyer? My former employer told me I could not contest or fight this. Thanks a lot for your advice. I have contacted a lawyer and he is asking for 7500. I don`t have malpractice insurance so I may have to pay out of pocket. I am searching for another job. Thanks for your support

I have worked for a psychiatry facility for six months. I was recently fired because of an APS case accusing me of neglect. I was told APS will be notifying the BON of Texas. I am 3 months pregnant and don`t have another source of income. What are my options? Where do I go from here? Please Help
