I need a serious advice too, I can't make a new post since I'm not a premium member so I thought I'd just insert it here. I'm a foreign grad but an RN in CA and I have been looking for a job all over the place now, even tried agencies but I always get turned down because I do not have any US experience. But how do I get experience when I can't land a job, when no one would give me a chance? Can anyone advice me on what to do? I'm thinking of volunteering in hospitals instead, but volunteers don't do nursing or any medical duties there. Will that count as experience to help me attain my goal of being able to work as a nurse in the US? Please help, I am really confused on what to do.
Thank you Alexk49 for your suggestion. I already have my social security card so no problem there. I just hope that I can get a job...and soon.

Hi, thank you. Were you able to land a job at a hospital despite having had less than a year experience in PI?
Lucky you... wish I could have the same luck as you, but it's very hard to find a job here in the Silicon Valley area as you have read from the other responses in this post. But you're right, just have to keep being positive and putting my foot forward out there. BEst of luck to you as well.

When i got hired i thought i was just lucky...until i was called by another big teaching hospital about their new grad position that i applied as well...then i realized luck was the least thing responsible for that...its mostly you..you said it right...wherever you came from...just be confident..trust your abilities and that will exude out from you...wishing you luck..its not just about getting the job but maintaining it...hoping to hear good news from you soon..
Hi richo_006
I had a bad time of finding a job in Bay area as well, so I decided to apply at la county hospital. I got first interview and waiting for second interview, take a long time huh? One of the senior nurse recruiter has informed me that they are waiting for their budget so don't know when i can get my second interveiw with the manager. I am a foreign-trained nurse from Thailand with no US expereince too. I wish I will have a chance to get my second interview. How long was it take you for the whole process though? Please give some advice. Thank you
I personally did not find obtaining or maintaining a nursing license hard. I have always found trying to find a great position very difficult. The places that would hire you on the stop are places that don't provide a good work environment. With the job situation difficult in the USA it is going to be very very difficult.
Most places hire in this order, Experienced nurse in the area hiring, experience nurse with non related nursing experience, BSN, ASN or Diploma grad, US legal resident but foreign training, and then Foreign Grad requesting sponsor.
Hi Suzanne, hope you remember me, yes I did apply at private surgeon, went for an interview, he said I have no Us experience. I try my best and may be apply at nursing home, sigh!!. Getting license is hard but finding a job is even harder. How have you been Suzanne?
Nice to hear from you.
When one does not have any US experience, then it becomes hard to get hired here. And even more so with things the way that they are right now.
Your only option is to go for the nursing homes right now.
Please keep me posted as to how things are going for you.
